The dealer is careless and greedy.

A proper business man will not accept such a large amount for inconvenience.

A few thousand naira as a tip is appropriate

Imagine this scenario and it happened real life so don't think it's some fairy tale.

Three men visited a car stand. They asked for the pricing of a 2013 Toyota camry and the seller told them the price (say 5 million naira).

They asked him for his account details and after 2 days, they transferred 3 million naira into his account.

Immediately after the transfer, they came to him and told him they are sorry but they couldn't complete the cash; so the car dealer should give them 2 million -five hundred thousand naira and keep the other five hundred thousand naira on it as fees for inconvenience on his part. The car dealer happily did that and was happy he got 500k as fees for doing almost nothing.

Fast forward to 3 days time, he had his car stand invaded by F-SARS and anti kidnapping squads. They asked if he was the owner of the account and Nabbed him immediately He admitted to ownership of the account; then it dawned in him what was really happening.

The guys were kidnappers and they used his account to recieve kidnap ransom making him culpable in the offence. He paid them cash with no trace and they made It look like the 500k was his own share of the loot! Now he is in very deep trouble but it could have been avoided.

That's it people, stay safe and be very careful. Don't go looking for quick cash or commissions without doing your DD. Let wisdom guide you always and don't be greedy!

I'd be grateful if mods could move this to FP so people can learn this latest format from the men of the under world.

@bishopkay

How so?

The guy should be arrested and fully dealt with.

Somebody transferred money to you and you paid them back, in cash.

How can the police track them when he gave them untraceable cash?

he should be dealt with since he allowed free 500k blind him.
Are u saying he shouldn't have given them his acc. Number even as a business man who wants to make sales? Or he shouldn't have given them back their money when they decided not to purchase the car again? Even if the guy was too greedy to accept d 500k without asking questions, how was he suppose to know that they were criminals? Anybody could have accepted that money. If he makes a good explanation to the police, they will knw he is innocent. Infact, d police wil b so dumb to think that a kidnapper will use his personal acc. To get ransome.

Who pays such amount in cash?

Exactly on point. The car dealer paying such an amount in cash translates he is privy to the deal. He should have requested for an account to transfer money back to them. That cash of #3.5 million is much.

Serves the car dealer right! Those guys are too greedy.

I hope he learns his lesson from this. So you will accept N500k for doing absolutely nothing and it won't ring a bell?

His greed was too much.

How was he able to pay the men N2.5million in cash? Did he have the money lying around somewhere? Goodluck explaining it to the police

He should have returned the money through banking channels, simple.

Why did he have to withdraw the money and give them?

@ bolded, don't be a level one thinker. It is possible for a kidnapper to use his personal account because he thinks no one would assume that a kidnapper used a personal account. You follow my drift?
Re: New Trick Used By Kidnappers And Fraudsters To Implicate Unsuspecting People by Dharnchuks(m): 5:10pm On Mar 28, 2019
Very careless on his part. He should have only agreed to make a refund to the account from which he received the funds. We should be very cautious of every bank transfer we receive, especially if your business is one which involves receiving huge inflows. If he wasn't greedy, sense would have told him something was wrong when they asked him to keep 500k for doing nothing. Who does that in Nigeria if not a criminal.

No, in that case, he would have receipts and documents. he would also prepare purchase papers in the name of the account that transferred the money to him. There is a reason why SCUML regulations apply to car dealers.

anyway these is just speculation in d real sense he will notice something fishy when they request for cash payback.

If its American detectives d guy will be set free whether he paid cash or not

If it's American detectives, he would be charged for money laundering. It's like you are not noticing that he retained 500,000 NGN for himself out of the money. The only way he can be exonerated is if the kidnappers are caught.

I hope u knw that common sense is not common to everybody. The prospect of free 500k might have beclouded the guy's sense of reasoning . Guy, life is hard in naija. besides, that guy might also be some one who likes quick money. @bolded, i don't expect the police not to investigate an acc simply becos they think a kidnapper cannot use his persnal acc.

It is a very old yahoo boys scam. It doesn't even work overseas again.

It goes like this, you buy a credit card details from a hacker. Then you check online for small companies, lets say a limousine hire company.

Tell them your people are coming for an event and you need a car.

They give you a quotation like $1900 and you immediately pay more than the amount. Like $3500

Next thing, the guy who owns the company starts to message you about the overpayment.

Then you say your it was a mistake by your account officer.
Next thing you ask him to wire $1500 to you and keep $100 for his troubles.

Funny enough most times, they think they've made a quick buck.

Until their bank calls them in for a quick chat.

The car seller must be as dumb as a tarsier. How can someone transfer kind of money to your account and request for cash?
What happens to sending the money back to their account?
Someone who cannot afford to complete payment for a car but can afford to give you #500k for free? For real?
This isn't a trick at all. It's just a product of greed and sheer stupidity.

You are right but come to think of it, what if the guy gets carried away with a mouth watering offer of #500,000k and he gets greedy and wants to cash in on that to arrange for the cash from a nearby bank while they wait for him. He should have requested to transfer back the money to their own bank account.

That is why you do not accept to aid someone receive money through your account as the proceeds could be fraud money.

When quick money is in the offing, you'd be surprised how very fast people can make things happen!

And it's not just about the car dealer, we should be very careful about money we let into our accounts. We should know origin and all that. It could even be small money but you don involve be say you don involve!

The lesson: If persons or a buyer sends u money and comes back for refund (especially immediately) full or partial u must send it back to same account only or else notify authorities about it just Incase. No cash or 3rd party account for refunds.

If you have any encounter similar to this, to be safe just ask the guys to follow you to the bank to collect the money. Ensure that they enter into the banking hall with you and inform the bank security to detain them while you call the police. Then you can pay them the money. Or just ask them for account number and phone number while you are together in the bank and do the transfer.
