The days of fossil fuel are numbered...very soon oil producing nations will have no choice but to drink their oyel tongue
Mr senile, only God's days are not numbered! Fossil fuel days are numbered even before the discovery and first exploitation. Please re-educate yourself about the fossil fuel potentials in Nigeria. I know western world is switching 'gradually' from fossil fuel but not swiftly especially in this part of the world! And it's stupidity to think that fossil fuel is all about pms. Pls engage your brain!

Wilbros and Dunlop left during OBJ's tenure cos of high cost of power. Michelin and PZ left during GEJ's tenure. I don't think Nestle is leaving and Exxonmobil is not leaving. They're basically carrying out same exercise their IOC counterparts carried out in Nigeria a few years ago.
I know and in my comment, I never said otherwise

They are not selling ALL their assets...

How does the Nigerian Economy affect their situation...

Poor Journalism...

New fields in Eastern Africa as well as the American are currently very profitable because of various incentives offered.

We already have a developed oil industry so we wont offer those incentives..

Exxon are still developing assets in Nigeria as well speak...

Same with Shell, Total and AGIP...

Besides no sale can take place without the approval the FG...

So chill and dont wail....

Modified

Called my friend in Eket now

Said it's just the discussion are on the onshore fields..

The offshore fields are not for Sale..

Exxon is currently hiring fresh graduates.

They wouldn't be doing so if there was no long term plan.

congrats you just won yourself a consolation prize. clap for yourself

Exxonmobil isn't leaving. They're just divesting their onshore assets and this has nothing to do with Buhari nor the economy.

You want to show yourself abi?

I'm saying there's is a steady commitment away from oil, and you are here telling me about untapped oil.

Combustion engine vehicles (Diesel and petrol) are being phased out in Europe.

Many homes are beginning to install solar panels.

Wind energy is being used to power many homes and industries.

Abi you dey see coal trains again?

Just as coal is in less demand so is oil being phased out.

In addition, there are many places with Shale (the source rock for petroleum) which can now be extracted making far-flung countries such as Nigeria less attractive even in the short to medium term.

To think you even got.likes tells me the average Nigrian is highly unimformed.

And to add salt to injury, they garnish their ignorance with arrogance. See as he said "shut up"...

As much as I will accept some of your points here, you still lack online courtesy based on your first comment! Believing any company will find oil business less attractive in Nigeria is still out of right thinking!

and why so? The only major reasons most multinationals are in Nigeria are the comparatively cheap labour (especially when the product produced has a global market, thus the company has a major cost cutting advantage considering purchasing power parity,PPP) and the ease of bribing their way past breaches in regulatory standards (talk about the spills in Niger Delta). A lot of other things suck. Security wise, infrastructure, bottlenecks of stupid bureaucracy, stupid behavior of host communities etc.

If you were intelligent you would realise despite the millions of things you could potentially derive from a product, when 2 major derivative are Shut down the demand falls and therefore the price.

Once price falls, investment falls.

You are not a kid.

Think!!

Some of you just yap to have an opinion, no matter how otiose it might be.

Don't mind them. They seem to hate balanced knowledge. How someone will just be arguing without any recourse to dig beyond the surface as regard to facts just beats me.

Do you know that a man that throws out his courtesy irrespective of any thing is a blockhead? Ruminate over it!

So when a thief or a rapist is accosted and beaten mercilessly without courtesy it means the beaters are blockheads? Or when a child does something incredibly silly and is flogged, is flogging down with courtesy? So when you discipline your child, it means you are a blockhead?
You see what this culture of people just waking up and start posting packaged nonsense without any depth on social media in the name of motivational speaking has caused?
The only thing to ruminate here is your obvious deficiency in comprehension. Trying to "sound intelligent" but unwilling to pay the price of deep examination of events

You think they don't know? They do. All of them. Including the BMC's with official positions like Tolu.
However, I don't really blame them if one looks at the picture holistically. The Buhari's regime is implementing a classic program of fascist socialism, where the State uses poverty to subdue its citizens and the security services to oppressive the stubborn ones in order to intimidate the rest into silence.

And it has worked, of courses enabled by the twin postcolonial and seminal divisions of tribe, ethnicity and religion. Nigeria is a country that stands as on a tripod of the Hausa/Fulani, Igbo and Yoruba nation-states. To rule, you just need the backing of at least the political class from two of these tripod. Buhari has the backing he needs from the North and Tinubu-led political elites of the South West. That is enough to rule in Nigeria.

The BMCs are also victims of the sorry state of Nigeria's affairs. However, they survive based on the penury they get from Buhari. So they know. But survival, for them and as expected, is first. So they ignore.
They were thinking, it wasn't gonna affect dem

I only wish you guys dig news deeper than the surface. I knew this will happen. and I am glad it did. This is one of the IOCs destroying the oil and gas industry in Nigeria. And they are not comfortable that Buhari will insist on them paying what is due from them. They have been cutting corners since the came into the country... and of course, successive governments have benefitted from the largesse they share.

Immediately I realized the Western countries were backing Atiku, I prayed hard that he will lose, and I told my friends, that if Atiku loses, some of the IOCs will declare their interest to leave the country, and sell their onshore and offshore asset. This is the beginning of the fulfillment of my prophecy.

As they leave, new investors that will follow the right procedures and do business legitimately with the interest of Nigeria covered will come in...

If that is the only cleanup Buhari with is dull government will achieve before we get some younger vibrant leadership in 2023, it will be a very good thing for Nigeria!
Las last you blamed Atiku?
Don't worry your digging deeper will provide jobs for everyone

Sorry to burst your bubble, but fossil fuel will still remain with us for quite a long while. It will take quite a while for alternative energy to upstage fossil fuels.

Yes fossil fuel will remain with the backward continent of Africa.

The real issue is how we shall sustain our economy here when Europe, America and Asia stop buying our crude oil!
