The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a new scheme that is targeted at creating employment for 60,000 Nigerians aged 18-25 years.

This was announced Wednesday by the Minister of Budget and Planning, Udoma Udoma while briefing State House correspondents at the end of the meeting of the council chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Mr Udoma said the new scheme is called the N-Power knowledge multi-track youth empowerment programme.

He said under the scheme, 12,000 unemployed or under-employed graduates aged 18-25 yrs will be trained and given relevant devices afterwards.

He also said the training will be on mobile computing and commonly used electronic devices.
Mr Udoma said the programme, which will be run under the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP), is open to all unemployed graduates.

He also said after the training, each of the initial 12,000 selected and trained “will be empowered to train five other youth, leading to additional 60,000 jobs”

He said the contract for the programme was awarded to Softcome Ltd working with the officials of NSIP.

The minister also said the federal government will spend N259,000 per youth on the training while an additional 207,000 will be spent for work tools.

He put the value of the programme at N5,595,669,250 with a completion period of nine months.

We promised 3million jobs yearly and we can only deliver 60,000 jobs in 4years. This shows that my administration is really working and it is the best administration in Nigeria.

Very soon we will start producing pencils and toothpick as part of our technological achievement.

Read the article again, it's actually 12000 jobs youths being taught how to be pressing mobile devices. The 60000 is click bait. There's no real skill to be retained here. Only good thing is 12000 people will be on this social welfare programme collecting free money and go home after a few years with the mobile devices.

All these can't solve Nigeria's unemployment problem. Increasing power generation, enabling a favourable business environment for private investors to do business and reducing loan interest rates so people can take loans to establish or boost their businesses will go a long way in solving these problem.

Any employment scheme, that is not driven by private sector is a charade.
After driving investors out of Nigeria,Buhari and his 24 thieves initiate schemes that will enhance their ability to loot more.
Buhari is killing Nigeria,by the time he is done with his second tenure,Venezuela will be far better than Nigeria.

Hmmm - APC my party - but on this one they should stop all this rubbish already - this is not the way to solve this issue* we can't continue to hide behind one finger and think social investment schemes is the answer to our problems - a social investment scheme is a social net - not a solution to a problem- if they want a solution I have many* let them contact me

What exactly are you using almost N260k to train somebody for, most of our youth if given that money can learn fone repairing, dress making, shoe making etc with less than fifty k and will be established, govt officials are only feeding on the poor masses

It is a gud start but bad policies will not allow d programme succeed. It is not only about training n equipping them but linking them with opportunities in different industries will help. D problem with Nigeria is that opportunities to utilize ones skills r not there. How on earth will someone be train n given equipment, then allow him to find his way. U need to link him up to opportunities by making good laws n policies that will harness his talent.

You're not alone dear. I'm tired of this country. Does it mean nobody sees it as a way of dis-en-franchising others that are well above 25 years?

I applied for a role recently in Canada Commission here in Nigeria, and there was no age discrimination. I've noticed well to do corporations and countries don't do age limit.

I've given up on this country. If our own Federal Government still discriminates with age, what then can we say about private sector that are looking for 24years graduate with years of experience??

It saddens my heart anytime i see poos like this. Even the recently announced NNPC recruitment said the same thing.

It is well...
