Should I Make A Move On My Best Friend ? by lilbabe79: 2:59pm On Apr 05
Hi
I have this male friend I’ve known for almost 20 years. He courted me back in the days but I was not available so we remained friends so far. Life keeps pulling us apart and bringing us closer (geographically). He now lives on the other side of the world but we cal each other all the time. He’s my best friend, support and confident. He knows everything about me and I about him.
We talk a lot, laugh to the same things etc.

We stayed at each other’s place multiple times over the years, even sharing a bed now and there but he never tried anything

Now we are both 40 with a few failed relationships under our belt.
He keeps telling me how he wants to settle and start a family. We talk a lot about the fact that the best way to go is marry your best friend, someone you really know and so on.

I have this odd feeling that he’s trying to test the waters with me but he never says anything definitive

I’m really wondering if I should make the first move and tell him we should give it a try.
I’ve never done such thing in my life and I’m afraid he would say no. If he does, our friendship would probably take a hit.

What do you suggest ?

You are old enough to make up your mind if you feel he is the right man for you, a man that didn't take advantage of you while you both slept on the same bed many times is a good guy who has control over his sexual urges, I think he really needs someone to bond and share his feelings with and that person is you, you guys have passed the stage of thinking about heartbreaks, you just have to try your best to see if the relationship would work and forget about any interior intentions from the man.

I think you two have been in love for long but you both are afraid of the unknown, life is not in a straight part, what happened in your past relationships should not be a yardstick for a new one.

About you telling him your feelings, I think you should tell him to avoid future regrets, there is no harm in trying, all the explanation you gave here shows the man is in love with you but he is also afraid of the same thing as you are, apply the proverb "if Mohammed doesn't go the mountain the mountain would go to Mohammed"

Hmmn.. this one is quite dicey

You want to settle with the poor guy now after exhausting all options with other guys that failed.

The fact that you're best friends now doesn't mean you'd still be best friends in marriage tho.. shoot your shot if you want, best of luck!

Go about it in a playful manner. In the middle of a conversation when he says something that thrills you, just chip in a sentence like, O!Jay I love you more each passing day. You make me happy always by your perception about life. If you were around now I would have said, what have you given me to eat? I am just loving you too much these days. Then you quickly change the topic.

You will see that after some time he will call to confirm if what you said about loving him is true? That's when you will tell him Yes in a bold letter.

Best of luck, dear.

If after 20 years, he hasn't made a move, he's

1. A gay or

2. Impotent or

3. Just not into you.

4. ALL of the above.

20 years in Friendzone is a lifetime!

He is not into you.
He knows ur flaws and good sides.
He has choosen it'ss best he remains friends cos he can not marry you.
If not he would have long made the move.
If u date him;u will not be happy cos it will be a one sided thing.

You said you still love your baby daddy on this thread
https://www.nairaland.com/4872820/baby-daddy-new-guy

Get over your baby daddy first. As for this man let him be the one to initiate a relationship with you. If he wanted a relationship with you he would've. Give him hints but let him be the one to make a move.

There is nothing wrong in making the first move. Apparently you guys are made for each other, you are just too shy or proud to admit it

It's sad knowing that premature persons with zero empathy are here. A fool is known when he opens his mouth.
