And since when did "Why We Struck" become the whole truth? It was simply an account by someone trying to justify his actions, right or wrong. It's most probably got nothing to do with the whole truth.

If you're in doubt, Ask Mr. Abubakar Atiku about the portions in Mr. Olusegun Obasanjo's now infamous and self-aggrandizing book where he (Obasanjo) wrote about Mr. Atiku.

Just saying.

This bridge was commissioned by the then Prime Minister late Alhaji Tafawa Balewa and opened for traffic in December 1965... barely 15 days after, The same Balewa was assassinated by the people he commissioned the bridge for.

Two years later, the same people destroyed what was built for them.

Ifeajuna and other ibo soldiers killed other regional leaders and spared theirs.

Ironsi instead of executing them immediately, was pampering them. All the problems in this country can be traced back to ibo betrayal in that first coup

The story about how the bridge was blown up is captured in Colonel Achuzia's book 'Requiem Biafra'. Achuzia was in Asaba, his home town, fighting when Federal troops overran the town. Achuzia then ordered his men to withdraw across the bridge to Onitisha. By the time Achuzia himself and his orderly got to the Asaba end of the bridge that night, some Nigerian soldiers were already there. He got out his car, threw some cam of beer down the road to distract the Soldiers, then jogged with his orderly down to the Onitsha end of the bridge where he met some Biafran engineers already lacing the bridge with bombs.

The next morning, Achuzia received orders from Brigadier Nwawo to lead the operations to blow up the bridge because Nigerian Soldiers had amassed at the Asaba end and were preparing for a major invasion. Achuzia got to the Onitsha end of the bridge were he met Lt Colonel Nsudoh, a brave Ibibio officer who fought for Biafra. Nsudoh handed the detonator to Achuzia who promptly blew the bridge according to Achuzia, the explosion was so loud that it threw him and Nsudoh up the air and when both men landed, they could not hear each other talking.

The significance of blowing up the bridge was that Murtala Mohammed then tried to invade Onitsha across the River Niger 3 disastrous times and lost more than half his division to capable Biafran Soldiers on the Onitsha side. When Murtala finally crossed the River, Achuzia destroyed what was left left of his troops at Abagana which led to Murtala being recalled from the war by Gowon

That’s to tell you that he massacre of over 60,000 igbo civilians all over the north was premeditated.

Other coups and assasination happened after that but no tribe was massacred.

They were envious of igbos and looking for the right excuse to do what they did.

Today they are looking for another excuse but unfortunately for them a character like Nnamdi Kanu arouse.

If 1966 massacre happens again, that will be the fastest route to Biafra. This time, the international community will see it happen live.

Dem self no fit try am....

Correction. There was no battle at Niger Bridge the battle was Onitsha waterside. Achuzia blew up the bridge to slow the advance of the Nigerian forces. Murtala then sent thousands of soldiers across to Onitsha where they started to loot and destroy like they had done in Asaba. Biafran soldiers rallied and totally massacred the Federal forces. Some managed to swim back to Asaba to tell what happened.

Murtala the butcher of asaba, high on drugs and overconfident after his babalawo assured him he would win, sent wave after wave of men in boats across to Onitsha but they were massacred also.

You are on point

A few military men from different ethnic groups did it.They were a few military men not the civilian populace. when Abacha and his group looted Nigeria dry no one mentioned the entire Hausa/Fulani . when OBJ golp 16billion dollars via NEPA and killed everyone in Udi no one mentioned the entire yoruba race.when Dimka killed Murtala heaven did not brake loose ,when Abacha locked up MKO and when he died in prison no one mentioned the entire Abacha family but when Nzeogu spearheaded the coup in 1966 without consulting the igbos (even though his people in Delta state still deny that they are igbos)the entire country descended on the innocent igbo population. why do you people behave this way, must you judge like cavemen? The massacre of the igbos after the 1966 coup caused the civil war.

Dem b cavemen as u talk am jawe

And their children have not repented till today.

Why should a crime committed by 4 ibo officers and one Yoruba officer be ascribed to a whole tribe? Did Ifeajuna and Ademoyega consult the whole igbo tribe and their elites before carrying out their coup? I think it is high time we have some sense and realise that these guys acted on their own and not on behalf of the igbo tribe. This is 2020 we should not be making the same mistakes our parents did by blaming a tribe for the actions of a few men who clearly acted on their own.
