Any person or group of persons who want pray to God to have mercy on the souls of their dead relatives or friends should be free to do so. Those who don't want to do this should also be free not to. #Freedom of belief. There is nothing like freedom of belief in the bible. No standing on the fence. He preached with authority and love and He and His message were accepted by many. So contrary to your a little 'fundamentalist' stance, Jesus actually tolerated other beliefs |

GOOD ADVICE, BUT HE SHOULD CHANNEL HIS ADVICE TO CATHOLICS AND NOT TO CHRISTIANS BECAUSE CHRISTIANS DON'T PRAY FOR THE DEAD BUT CATHOLICS DO. Yet when someone dies, you guys type, " May His Soul Rest in Peace (RIP)", so this one is not prayer for the dead? Believe what ever suits you and leave the catholic church alone. The church stoutly believes in the intercession for the death and that's why the Catholics commemorate the "All Souls Day" and the "All Saints Day", to remember the loved ones that have passed and the early Christian martyrs. |

Purgatory is a place of purification for those who's sins are not deserving of eternal condemnation but at the same time cannot be in heaven due to those sins. At what time in the history of the Catholic Church was money collected in the name of purgatory? Praying for the dead is as old as man, and I believe you have at some point in time attended one Christian funeral service or the other in your church, if praying for the dead is stupid as you say, then then it means you and all those who converge for such are also stupid  The teaching of purgatory is against the biblical teaching. There's nothing in the Bible that suggests that the dead are even conscious. Jesus always refers to the dead as sleeping. This is consistent with the Bible verse:
Matthew 27:52
The tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised;,
Daniel 12:2
"Many of those who sleep in the dust of the ground will awake, these to everlasting life, but the others to disgrace and everlasting contempt.,
1 Corinthians 15:52
In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.
1 Thessalonians 4:16
For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.
Where then do your purgatory fit in here. When you die, you die and you become dust and that's it until the last day. Nothing like immortal souls or the sort. That's a pagan believe championed by satan to deceive sinners into believing that they have another chance at life again after death. The earlier we accept the simplicity of the Christian faith, the better. And yes, Vatican was built by monies from penance on behalf of the dead believed to be in purgatory. |
