People Behind The Failure Of Obasanjo's Government by spora(m): 3:19pm On May 01, 2007
There is no gainsaying that majority of Nigerians see Obasanjo's 8 years mis(rule) as a failure. Even though it was able to perform creditably well in the area of our foreign reserve and debt. An average Nigeria sees this as not affecting him personally.

In spite of trillion of dollars generated from the oil sector, this does not have significant impact in the standard of living of the populace. In the areas of Electricity, Road, Educational Systems, Corruption, Health, Respect for the Rule of Law and even democracy, the government scores below average.

Who, in your opinion, are those men behind the failure's mask. Is it Jerry Gana, Tony Anineh, Bode George, Atiku(?), Sunday Ehindero, Ufot Ekaeteh or Baba himself.
Re: People Behind The Failure Of Obasanjo's Government by Mamajama(m): 3:26pm On May 01, 2007
Ehindero has nothing to do with failure, as a matter of fact he revamp the police force from what Balogun left,
Re: People Behind The Failure Of Obasanjo's Government by mazaje(m): 6:56pm On May 01, 2007
Baba is the man behind the failure of his government
Re: People Behind The Failure Of Obasanjo's Government by CrudeOil1(m): 8:10pm On May 01, 2007
Baba is the man behind his destruction.
Re: People Behind The Failure Of Obasanjo's Government by Mamajama(m): 9:27pm On May 01, 2007
baba Government is not a failure, we wont appriciate him till he is out of office, and Yar Adua will continue with the crusade
Re: People Behind The Failure Of Obasanjo's Government by BigB11(m): 10:16pm On May 01, 2007
Ehindero (another boy scout) is responsible for part of the failure and I recommend to probe him after May 2007.
Something tells me that this cat is dirty just like the rest.

I think the game just began and if we are not careful, things will start falling apart pretty soon.

It is despicable for individual like Akala to win the election as Oyo state governor.
It is crystal clear that our new president was practically pushed into the Aso Rock.

My question is how do we move forward?  Where do we go from here? Because it seems to me that the failure of this new administration has already been implemented.
And it is sad to know that nothing will change for better for another 4 years.

Where is Nigeria, my sweet country?
Can someone help me find my country?
Re: People Behind The Failure Of Obasanjo's Government by Mamajama(m): 1:21am On May 02, 2007
Big B1 A good friend once told me a guy that lick ass speak nothing but sh**T, I cant even blv you called Nigerian your home. Ain't you the same person

preaching of moving Nigeria forward and at the same time the only cat you see so fit to rule the nation is the toothless General IBB. Ehindero did a

wonderful job with the police image that was shattered by Tafa. The election might not be the best, but it was by far better than what we had in 1979.

OBJ did well for Nigeria and its time for YAR ADUA to continue the good work. My question now is how can we stop all the corrupt politicians including IBB from going the ALARM way?
Re: People Behind The Failure Of Obasanjo's Government by Dreloaded(f): 1:25am On May 02, 2007
I beg to disagree MAMA, Obj's elections are the worst ever, 1979 was better, even the infamous 2003 was better. granted he has done a few very commendable things - stopping IBB, and beginning to stop corruption, he could have done a lot better too.

If you ask me about the failures in his govt, two people that easily come to mind are

Aborishade - both in education and aviation, man was terrible and failed woefully

Anenih - the roads tell the tale all by themselves, corrupt thieving man
Re: People Behind The Failure Of Obasanjo's Government by BigB11(m): 4:18am On May 02, 2007
When is Ehindero finally going to handle the remote control?

One of the major problems in Nigeria is lack of solid leadership and lack of real men.

I'm sick and tired of these boys scout; no one has balls to stand upright for what he or she believes. People continue to run up and down displaying stupidity and foolishness.

Short cuts, figure heading and sycophant; these are the things that I see when I look at our people, our leaders.

Where is the dignity?
How can you call yourself a true leader when you can not be wrong or corrected?
The failure in Nigeria starts from the root and it is sad and a shame that the new generations are beginning to joint and follow the foot-path of the old schools' uncivilized ways of thinking.

Failure is written all over the faces of our leaders.

Failure is the way of life in Nigeria;  I thought this was the perfect time for us to turn things around for better and forever, but I was wrong. As we all know Failure for the next administration has already been implemented.

Where do we go from here or what is next for the great citizens of Nigeria?
Does anyone care about this country?
How long is it going to take to restore things back to normal?
How many dead bodies and how many more to go? And for what?

Where is sweet Nigeria?
Re: People Behind The Failure Of Obasanjo's Government by BigB11(m): 4:52am On May 02, 2007
The police image in Nigeria is the most despicable image I've ever seen. The police stop points all over the country today are more or less cash checking points for the police. And these are the same people we expect to protect us and arrest the criminals. I just don't get it.
And I blame nobody, but Ehindero for not finding an effective strategy to stop police misconduct.

Apart from distributing new police uniform and saying yes sir, yes sir to the president, what else has he done during his time? Absolutely nothing.
Just because he's not a carbon copy of Tafa Balogun doesn't mean he deserves credit. Credit for what?

Please guys, we need to understand our roles as leaders and start producing the way we suppose to.

85% of our problems in Nigeria will be resolved as soon as we start embracing perfection and stand upright/ firm for what we believe.

When are we going to stop doing the right thing and start doing what is right?
Do you truly understand the different between the two?

Materialistic, dirty culture, greediness, lack of self dignity and lack of respect for the constitution are the things that are killing our people today in Nigeria; and it all starts from our homes and different backgrounds.

It is a shame that one can not even walk around freely and sincerely as Nigerian anymore; Our people and incompetent leaders have totally destroyed our image all over the world.

And please, don't misunderstand my point; I'm not trying to disrespect the Nigerian police, but for any reasonable society to operate effectively, the citizens' security must be the number one priority.
But unfortunately, I do not see this in any society in Nigeria; hence Ehindero gets no kudos from me. He's part of the failure in Nigeria today.

May God bless Nigeria and show us the right path.
Re: People Behind The Failure Of Obasanjo's Government by Backslider(m): 10:41am On May 02, 2007
@big1

This is typical disillusionment from a Nigerian.

This is was my beef with Obj to get rid of Disillusionment He needed to have Used "Coreism" Where he can work with core of very young men.

He should have had 2 core

one for street children area boys etc

Another one for students and technicians

Core citizens ONE C1

This would have been USED to provide all manual manpower

Security
Sanitation
Intelligence gathering
Voluntary policing

Core citizens two C2

This will used to do more technical jobs

Teaching
Researching
Paramedical
Voluntary Investigators
architects

He should have provided Them with the basics free

feeding
shelter
Transportation
Education for this core people

He should have ran this as a pet Programe and put an Exsoldier that still have fire in his bones as the commandant of this civil core.

This will not solve all the problem we have but it will help us to get rid of disillusionment.

For me he has done well.

In spite of trillion of dollars generated from the oil sector

I think you mean trillions of naira not trillions of dollars. Obj government failed badly in the area of power supply. The biggest failures of the past 8 years, with a few exceptions, have been State Governments. They are the reason why Federal reforms have not been widely felt by the population.
Re: People Behind The Failure Of Obasanjo's Government by dayokanu(m): 1:43pm On May 02, 2007
The person to blame is the stubborness in OBJ.
Psychophants are always available it is now left for you to use your gumption to sieve out psychophants from well meaning Nigerians,
Dont mind Mamajama when he is not in the country He can stay in the comfort of a country where everything works and forgetting the darkness we sleep in in Nigeria everyday, the bad roads, the political killings.
An election that the senate president could not vote, Ojukwu, Frank Nweke's father who is a traditional ruler, Senator Ben Obi - AC vice president all these prominent people could not vote yet we have over 1 million votes in their states where ballot papers arrived at 5:30 in the evening yet we have over 1 million votes.
Where all the registered voters in Rivers state voted nobody died, nobody travelled and nobody decided not to vote
An election in Iju in Ondo state where 6,000 people registered and 8,000 voted

Where police intercepted a trailer load of ballot paper already thumbprinted for the PDP in Kaduna before the election yet someone in far away US said it was alright. An election that the international community and many prominent Nigerians discredited yet
Re: People Behind The Failure Of Obasanjo's Government by McKren(m): 2:04pm On May 02, 2007
It is natural to hold OBJ responsible for the successes and failures of his government, even he OBJ will admit that.

But the next government must emphasize on the Local Councils and State governments taking the lead in offering service to the people because they are the most important government units not the central government as we errorneously think.
Re: People Behind The Failure Of Obasanjo's Government by Mamajama(m): 2:29pm On May 02, 2007
its amazing how people like BIGB1 can criticize OBJ for his failure, Boy you can't even drive a taxi without recking

yourself, where in the world have you been to tag Nigerian police as the most inefficient police? people need to start

appreciating what they have and stop condemning the things we have, go to Mexico, Indonesia or even Brazil. this are

all p[laces I've been furtunate to be. Nigeria is a diverse nation and we can not please everyone, no matter what the

government does we will always have people like you that won't give credit when credit is due. How can you talk of OBJ

when you are single headily asking US to give IBB a chance to come rule this nation again? YAR ADUA will move this

nation to the next stage, all he need is the chance to show us what qualities he has and By the grace of GOD he will be

successful in all his programs. A good leader will listen and take action, that is what YAR ADUA brings to the table.
Re: People Behind The Failure Of Obasanjo's Government by BigB11(m): 2:46pm On May 02, 2007
It is sad that people can never stop talking about IBB.

IBB has been out of the page for over 10 years and still no one is competent enough to restore this country back to normal.

This reminds me of African Americans blaming white man for everything.
You need to look in the mirror and take a good look at yourself; you just never know the problem might be standing right in-front of you.

Enough is enough, leaders need to understand their roles and perform.

I've checked and double checked, there is absolutely nothing different about Nigerian police for the past 30 years. They are still the same cheap crooks; and Ehindero should be held responsible.

He's absolutely part of the failure and he should be ashame of himself.
Re: People Behind The Failure Of Obasanjo's Government by BigB11(m): 2:49pm On May 02, 2007
I hope our new president finds a way to get us back on track effectively and efficiently, because at this point it doesn't matter anymore; I just want my people to be treated with dignity and my country to be restored back as the giant of African once again.

But with confidence I still feel that at this particular point the name of the solution is IBB; and to understand this fact you have to be politically bright, think out of the box and profoundly understand what is currently going on in Nigeria.
And I may also be wrong.

Let's hope for the best.
Re: People Behind The Failure Of Obasanjo's Government by dayokanu(m): 3:49pm On May 02, 2007
@ Mamajama,
When the main ingridients for survival in a country is absent yet you call OBJ a success after 8 miserable years.
You have the resources to globetrot, what about the more than 100 million that can not afford it? They should manage the lack of electricity, bad roads, insecurity, hopelessness and the worst election in the history of Nigeria.
Since I am not directly affected Osama bin Laden can be the best person in the world ehn??
That is just your posture.
Since you live in the US and when you come to Nigeria you stay in Maitama, GRA and VGC and you are on generator 24-7, why should you be bothered if they have never had 30 minutes light for the last 6 months in Ajegunle, Oshodi and Iyana-Ipaja, Nguru, Katsina-Ala, Arochukwu and Auchi.
Since you are not affected why should you care if the serving Minister of justice, Harry Marshalls, Dikibo and other prominent and less prominent Nigerians are assasinated and the police cant get a solution to it.
Since you live in highbrow areas, anybody that complains about bad road is an enemy of progress and an ally of the opposition,
since you are not bothered and all your family are outside the country or have sinecure jobs what concerns you with the ravaging unemployment in the country.
Anyone that complains about the rigged election including the media, court, prominent Nigerians, the EU, US, and the international community are on the payroll of the opposition. God bless you sir.
Re: People Behind The Failure Of Obasanjo's Government by Mamajama(m): 3:50pm On May 02, 2007
recent Interview BY your HERO, IBB state by the next election he will be over 70 years old, that makes him ineligible to

ever rule us. thanks God, so because IBBhas been out of the office for over 10 years means we should ignore all his

atrocities against mankind?  why are people still talking of Mother Theresa, Hitler, and Mandela?  the good and evil that

man does will trail them to their grave.  Dude you need to stop talking like a drunkard and try and focus on what can

we do to move this nation forward, all your pessimistic thoughts will get us no where.  yes White people are

responsible for most of the suffering going on in the states.  simple example, go to the affluent neighborhood in the state

you wont find any liquor store around, come to the black neighborhood, all we have is payday loan shops, liquor store and GHETTO clubs.
Re: People Behind The Failure Of Obasanjo's Government by Seun(m): 3:57pm On May 02, 2007
The majority of Nigerians were perfectly satisfied with Obasanjo's government until he started his 3rd term nonsense.
Re: People Behind The Failure Of Obasanjo's Government by BigB11(m): 4:05pm On May 02, 2007
@MAMAJAMA:
My man, you seem not to be focused; Please get yourself together and come back to make yourself clearer.

@SEUN
Thank you for a solid point.

It all went down the toilet as soon as Mr. President started implementing baseless strategy for himself to stay forever and trying to play around with our constitution.

I wonder why Mr. President didn't learn from leaders like Mandela, who came on, did his best and left with pride and dignity?
Re: People Behind The Failure Of Obasanjo's Government by Mamajama(m): 4:08pm On May 02, 2007
Nigeria. And When I do come to Nigeria I experienced traffic, and lights out like the

ordinary people in AJEGUNLE. I travel through the bad roads like everyone else, what I

am saying is OBJ might have not been as effective as we all will like him to be, but most of the issues in Nigeria goes

way back before the 9 years we got from OBJ. We have people like Joseph Wires and Umaru DIKKO that took OVER $1

Billion Each out of this country in 1979. Imagine what that money will have given us if properly invested into the

community. We have people like ATIKU that squandered Over $120 and yet all we see is OBJ, we have people like IBB

and his Entourage that SQANDER $12 Billion and we have the ALAM, the DARIYE. KUDOS to OBJ and RIBADU for tackling

corruption, yes the police is not effective because they lack the equipment and personnel to be effective. Why is the

presidency waiting before the election to purchase 1000 cars for the police to monitor the election? This are valid

questions that should be directed to the senators and assemble members. YET ENGLAND gave this people residential

permit to invest the money in their banking sectors and you saying white man has nothing to do with our problems?

NPN was busy paying people for ballot boxes, How did SHAGARI win in 1979? what part did OMOBORIOWO played in that attrocious election?
Re: People Behind The Failure Of Obasanjo's Government by Mariory(m): 4:20pm On May 02, 2007
Seun:

The majority of Nigerians were perfectly satisfied with Obasanjo's government until he started his 3rd term nonsense.

Are you saying that whatever was achieved automatically vanished when the third term saga began? Sounds to me like you are suggesting his administration has indeed made achievements for Nigeria but, people choose to ignore said achievements because of "third term".
Re: People Behind The Failure Of Obasanjo's Government by McKren(m): 4:28pm On May 02, 2007
I think OBJ should be proud of himself.

If OBJ had not stepped on the toes of top politicians, the whole Nigeria would have been eulogising him by now. The EFCC (whether selective or not) and OBJ's quarell with the likes of IBB, Atiku and other top elite politicians brought to our awareness a lot we may not have known in the next 50years if OBJ agreed to play ball.

So the man should be proud of himself.
I have said it before, sometimes it is not how popular you are while in power that matters but how history will remember you. The issues we have experienced in the past 4years will shape this country for the better.
Re: People Behind The Failure Of Obasanjo's Government by Mamajama(m): 4:29pm On May 02, 2007
Thank you, well none of us like the third term, but the man must be given credit for some actions.
Re: People Behind The Failure Of Obasanjo's Government by dayokanu(m): 4:41pm On May 02, 2007
Pls can anyone highlight the achievement you can claim to have when there is no electricity in the country, when the roads are terrible, when less than 10% of population have access to pipe borne water, when insecurity is all over the nation, when unemployment is now a norm in the society any graduate that gets a job goes to the church to give thanks, When elections were blatantly rigged in 1979 I am not sure they caught a trailer load of ballot papers already thumbprinted for NPN or NPN won where they did not field candidates like PDP did in a senatorial seat in Ondo, nor did an NPN official attempted to push out the resident electoral commisioner out of a moving plane for not declaring PDP winner in Abia state when the youths of the nation swarm all over any embassy available including Azerbaijan and Armenia due to hopelessness. People now go to church to do thanksgiving for getting a visa to Thailand!! and populace envy them cos they know they are going away from the lawless and hopeless OBJ rule
Re: People Behind The Failure Of Obasanjo's Government by Seun(m): 5:04pm On May 02, 2007
President Obasanjo's greatest achievements are as follows:
- He has been able to keep the over-ambitious elements in the Nigerian Army in check. No military rule.
- The EFCC has been able to touch some untouchable men, including governors and the former police chief.

President Obasanjo's greatest failures are as follows:
- Inability to keep kidnappers, robbers and and murderers in the Niger Delta under control.
- Failure to reform the justice system and police force for greater efficiency and less corruption.
- Failure to liberalize and privatize the power sector so that market forces can drive sustainable growth.

I cannot praise or blame the government for anything outside national security. That's the private sector's domain.

@dayoakanu

I take it you live in Nigeria, right? If you do, I also take it you are gainfully employed
or self employed in Nigeria? You have access to the Internet, right? You carry at least
one GSM phone?

Have you visited US? If you haven't, I can tell you that I don't remember seeing any
more specific signs at US airports warning people about the dangers of traveling to
Nigeria, just don't remember seeing any of recent.

Except for the handful of banks that could not re-capitalize, have you had the bad luck
of having your funds trapped in any of the banks lately or do you get the sense that
the banks are much more stable lately?

Do you have kids, siblings in Universities within the past 4 years? Is it safe to assume
that they have at least spent more time at school than at home due to strikes, student
unrests, or just general government crackdown as were the norm in the "glory" days
of IBB and Abacha? The debt burden that has been erased can only propel the country
forward if the subsequent administrations build on that.

Do I need to go on? My point is, the present government could have done more, but
you are either being ignorant or being untruthful. Look deeper, the obvious may be in
front of you, you just happen to be taking them for granted. Give "some" credit where
its due. Now, Seun is on the mark with his last post.
Re: People Behind The Failure Of Obasanjo's Government by BigB11(m): 6:12pm On May 02, 2007
Ok, yes it is clear that this government has done somethings correctly during it's time, but this topic is only asking for the people behind the failure of OBJ's government e.g Aborishade, Ehindero and so on.

Or is there any other hidden topic in this tread that I can't see?

Please, let's focus on the topic and leave the rest for another topic.
Re: People Behind The Failure Of Obasanjo's Government by dayokanu(m): 6:41pm On May 02, 2007
This poster is definitely not in Nigeria

ASUU is always at loggerheads with govt in this regime ask any Nigerian undergrad presently as we are talking ASUU is on strike!! That is the best advert for private universities in recent time in Nigeria

Iyke dont tell me that you dont have electricity you are talking about mobile phone which one is more important?? like a father who cant feed, clothe and provide security for his family when asked for his achievement he said he painted the house!!

You have access to the Internet, right
Just like saying it was in the regime of Buhari/IBB that colour TV came into Nigeria

Have you visited US? If you haven't, I can tell you that I don't remember seeing any

Can you read a thread on Nairaland that Britain now categorises as a terrorist state also the expose by Oprah on Nigeria would be helpful on the perception of Nigeria abroad. plus the expose by CNN on the Niger-Delta Kidnappings

banks?? When we are still battling with basics of life like light road and security Pls how many percentage of Nigerians have ever been to a bank b4 when a large percent live with less than a dollar a day you are talking about banks what impact has that got on the common man who cant eat on the street??
Re: People Behind The Failure Of Obasanjo's Government by Mamajama(m): 6:48pm On May 02, 2007
What vital role does the police or the aviation sector plays in Nigerian presidency? Police department is not part of the

presidency.  you can't compare apple to oranges.  DUDE the caption clearly state "People Behind The Failure Of

Obasanjo's Government".  You can't judge a Federal government of Nigeria by just the law enforcement or aviation

sector.  We have police with flash lights no computers, and yet you expect miracle.  BIGB1 last time you was in chicago,

did you see what the police cars looked like?  did you see how clean and well funded they are?  you want to blame the

failure of OBJ government, blame your parents and the people that revised the 1999 constitution.  what we are

experiencing now is the ADVERSE IMPACT EFFECT OF people like IBB, SHAGARI JOSEPH WIRE, AND MIKE ADENUGA

if you keep removing one brick out of a house eventually the house will colapse,  we are moving forward and OBJ has set the precedence for a good government in Nigeria.
