A man identified as Jonah Sokolo, a driver with the Abua Odual local government transport service – was shot dead yesterday along Emohua axis of the East West road in Rivers State by kidnappers.

It was gathered that the men of the underworld also abducted passengers on the bus in the attack.

Few months ago, a group of masked gunmen, kidnapped 10 passengers and the driver of a white Toyota Sienna SUV travelling to Port Harcourt from Abua in the Abua/Odual Local Government Area of Rivers State.

It was gathered that the passengers were accosted by their abductors at the Rumuekpe junction along the East-West Road in the Emohua Local Government Area of the state.

An eyewitness said that the gunmen came out from a nearby bush, shot into the air and took away the 10 passengers in the vehicle and the driver.

These days kidnappers no longer go for the rich anymore, they kidnap poor people in large numbers and collect ransom from each of them. If each passenger can pay 200k for their release, the kidnappers will be smiling home with millions of naira. Crime has become a lucrative business in Nigeria, shame on us.

I always tell people in as much as Port Harcourt is money filled, I don't ever want to go or live there. Been there once as a teenager and have never been there ever again and don't want to be. Reason? Health hazard.. The sooth in the air. Second reason? Safety... The rate of cult related killings, robberies, outright murders, killings especially ritual killings is just too much. I no fit abeg.

How can security be addressed in rivers state?
