Accounting is a wonderful profession that requires decipline nad truthfulness.
I am kanayo, studied economics but am a chartered accountant, actually i got qualified in 2002 before i went to the university to study economics.
I am ready to give advice if required.
In any organization, no matter how small, someone is always employed to keep the accounting records, so the sky is just the beginning for any accountant.

It'l shock u to knw that i'v bin to abt 29states in the country, stayd days in some, weeks in more and years in a few,but Lagos hasnt hostd me an hour all my life!
I'v never as in ever bin to Lagos. The closest of my being in Lagos was whn I was in SS2 and we had a sch excursion to Ghana and we passed thru Lag. outside that,i'v nvr bin to Lag.
So,hw abt u relocating to Enugu?

Is that what u r paid in Lag? Thats frightening!
Re: Accountants' Forum. by tkb417(m): 12:30pm On Sep 21, 2010
^^ i havent said how much i earn but ill only move to Enugu for somethn cool
lol

In Lagos, there are things u do side ways that would fetch 'pepper' for u

there are things my coys clients wouldnt want my org to do cos of what the fees would be, these kinda coys would rather i fix it and i pocket a fraction of what they'll ordinarily have paid.

Those are the things that wouldnt make me swap Lagos for London. Not even Enugu

u feel me

@gentlejoke, i graduated from oau management and accounting february this year. In ur 1st yr u wouldnt be doing any accounting course, u'll do maths, geography, history, sociology, philosophy, pol science. Watch out for history, its the toughest though. By 2nd yr u'll be doing some accounting and management courses from the department and u'll be required to attend 7am courses but thats a tip of the iceberg. 3rd and 4th year are the worst, u'll be stressed out, lectures will start 7am and may not end until 6pm sometimes 9pm self. Every lecturer is different and you must find out what each lecturer expects from students. U'll be expected to study wide to be able to tackle exam questions. What u'll be taught will be little, infact shallow but u'll be expected to know much more. School exams clash with ican exams most of the times, so its up to u to decide when u'll sit for ican. These should do for now

Am sorry, i should have introduced myself before my earlier post. Am Deji, am a fresh graduate, i havnt seved though i should start service by October. I need a place where i can start my career, where i'll be thoroughly improved in a few years, where i will horn my skills and add as much value as i can. I am thinking presently of audit firms preferably kpmg and pwc. Also, i'll like to specialise in finance, so i want to know whether i should write cfa or take an mba in finance or both. Finally, how good is lagos business school?

I'm an Economics grad and rounding up my ICAN(could have finished since, but too laid back and unserious - and still curry some ICAN prizes though wink).
I'm in charge of Fixed Assets and Tax Accounting in an oil & gas company. So I can say one or two things on Accounting and Accountants.
Re: Accountants' Forum. by Nobody: 8:27am On Sep 22, 2010
I hated Accounting when I was in secondary and even university. But when I got an Accounting job after school I had no option than to like it.
My primary preference is Economic and policy analysis, as I have an eye for CBN, DMO or any organization I can use my economic knowledge knowledge more, but the current challenge is most of these organizations can't pay me what my current O&G coy pays me. So I need to make more dough before moving to my dream organization. grin. I also have in bag doing my Msc Economics & Finance from University of Durham, UK, after which I can make the decisive move.

Even after more than 2 years of doing accounting job, I have never given thought to switching my career to Accounting. I don't want to establish a career as an accountant but the good thing is all the experience I'm gaining will be useful for me later.

There are various aspects of accounting. I handle Fixed Assets Accounting for my organization and I have full knowledge of Fixed Assets Accounting, but it is very narrow.
I also handle Tax, which is more interesting and diverse. I enjoy Tax more.

So you may ask questions about these two areas and others.

hi jarus,
i just noticed something.
you used this word (?) ''unserious''.

justĀ  to let you know, brother, 'unserious' is NOT an english word. in fact, it is NOT a word (not derailing ya thread ooo).

I wrote an errors-and-mistakes book (booklet sha grin grin) about 11 years ago and i explained this.

sorry jarus, i like you a lot and i hope you don't see it as something personal.
i also learn from you, tkb and others (hey ajanlekoko)
