This bunch of ill trained and ill mannered police can only lead this country towards disintegration.

PSC members oppose IG’s move to convert police officers to specialists
Published by punchnewspaper May 1, 2019

Members of the Police Service Commission have opposed a plan by the acting Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, to convert 1,060 police officers from general duty to specialists.

The commissioners, who represented women, human rights groups, the organised private sector and the media in the PSC, stated that they were not consulted by the police authorities, noting that the Force should be preoccupied with the recruitment of more police officers and specialists to tackle the security challenge facing the country.

The IG had reportedly commenced moves to reverse the conversion of the specialists to general duty officers which was carried out by the immediate-past IG, Ibrahim Idris, and the Mike Okiro-led PSC.

But four PSC members, Hajiya Najatu Muhammad, Dr Nkemka Jombo-ofo, Austin Braimoh and Rommy Mom, in a letter to the IG, dated April 29, 2019, explained that the affected policemen were validly converted from specialist to general duties, following series of communication between the Force headquarters and the commission on the need for the conversion.

The letter read, “Following years of conversation from the time of IG Suleiman Abba in 2015, it was finalised in the days of IG Ibrahim Idris and the Mike Okiro-led PSC, which gave the go-ahead for the screening and conversion.

“A rigorous process of conversion was effected, huge resources and time expended in training and physical screening, wherein two police officers even lost their lives in the process. It was after the satisfactory screening and conversion that the PSC through its plenary approved the conversion.”

The commissioners stated that the decision had yet to be reviewed by the PSC, noting that no memo had been placed before the plenary of the commission to warrant a reversal, stressing that as members of the agency, “no such action can be validly taken without our knowledge, inputs and sanction.”

The letter added, “For the purpose of emphasis, the decision to reverse these officers from general duty to specialists is such that only the commission can carry out since it borders on oversight and policy and, certainly, not an individual within the commission, not minding his office and standing.”

It further stated that it would be irresponsible and insensitive for a country with less than 350,000 police officers which is under-policed and going through serious security challenges to reduce the number of policemen from general duty.

The PSC members urged the IG to halt the planned reversal of the police officers to specialists, stating that they were not consulted on the decision.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, could not be reached for comment as he did not respond to phone calls. He had yet to reply to a text message as of the time of filing this report

How can you send a man that has no clue on how to tackle the security challenge in his state to the force intelligence headquarters? If he was that intelligent, wouldn't he had solved the menace?

as if anything will change.....from the look of things, it appears some very powerful people are benefiting from the ransomes paid out to those kidnappers along abj-kd expressway....if not, for years now robberies and kidnappings have taken place on that road on almost a daily basis NOTHING meaningful has been done by the powers that be EXCEPT when the abj international airport was temporarily moved to kd and then the road was suddenly and suspiciously safe to ply UNTIL it was relocated back and then all hell was let loose again.....INTERESTING!!!
