Analysis

Though landlocked and densely populated, Rwanda is a developing country that has undergone rapid industrialisation thanks to successful government policy. Since the early-2000s, Rwanda has witnessed an economic boom improving the living standards of many Rwandans. The Government’s progressive visions have been the catalyst for the fast transforming economy. The President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, has noted his ambition to make Rwanda the "Singapore of Africa".

Bounded by the Atlantic ocean and having large deposits of hydro carbon, glass and silica sand, Rivers state is one of the most naturally endowed parts of Africa. It produces 50% of Nigeria's crude oil. However from the statistics above, it is clear that life in this very beautiful part of Africa is not better than life in Rwanda which has very little natural resources and land.

It shows again why seperatism in Nigeria is not a bad politics. Nigeria is too large and diverse to cordinate and develope a modern society. Ethnic tensions and religious intolerance contributes to keep the beautiful people of Nigeria down.

The South East of Nigeria which has clamoured for Biafra for years are always reminded that they are landlocked and with little oil. But here is Rwanda, a landlocked African Nation without resources (except its beautiful people) that survived a brutal genocide, gradually draging itself out of poverty without oil.

Think on this today.

The land mass of Rwanda is way bigger than Rivers. Rwanda is a country. Rivers is state. I don't get the comparison.

well everything. Rivers state has enough oil revenues to be a johanesburg.

In 2018...rivers passed a budget of approximately 2 billion usd while rwanda passed a budget of 2.7 billion usd.

Compare how the 2 entities look...in terms of infrastructure and security

This topic has been on NL some years back and the summary of all opinions reached was that Nigerian states should be truly federal with no inhibitions. That way states like Rivers can achieve its full
potentials.

its not way bigger if u realise that rivers state has access to sea and large oil and gas which rwanda lack.

Rwanda is 2wice rivers in landmas while rivers gets the same amount of money like rwanda. Check the infrastructure.

The point is...an oil-rich entity with sea access vs a resource poor entity without sea access...similar population....yet rwanda is doing better

Lol you don't still get the point. Rwanda pass rivers in everything. Rivers is a state in a nation. Which makes it limited to doing somethings. How many containers land in their sea port.?? 98% of containers coming to Nigeria land in Oshodi. I think this argument is vague and baseless.

Though I wouldn't support comparing a state with a country, just like comparing Nigeria with California, all the same, restructuring is the way to go. This current system would be very difficult to sustain. Nigeria is too diverse for this kind of system to work. I hope the noise of restructuring can go higher...

There's actually nothing much to think.
Those with discernment and functional brain knows that being landlocked is not an issue.

How long will one listen to people who absolutely believe that a nation without natural resource will cease to exist?
The rest of Nigeria is apprehensive about Igbos leaving the contraption, hence they use such scare tactics about being landlocked. Halfwits among the Igbos bought into it. Their funeral.

See, no matter which way its viewed, the country cannot exist for much longer. Its horrible past has caught up with it.

I think I've learnt one or two from this thread, but note that Rivers State is limited by a lot.

Restructuring would've been our best option, but we all know that those idol States that get free allocations won't allow it see the light of the day. I won't say it's underperforming considering the fact that the GDP you mentioned goes to FG as revenue before sharing is done.

You can as well compare Nigeria to Rwanda. Nigeria surpasses Rwanda in almost every economic indices. Where quality of living is concerned, we always fall flat.

The mumu op is making a case why Biafra should be a country. And when he wants to compare Rwanda, he picked a state a SS, why not pick a state in SE.

Why do we like to lie in this country. Rivers State with it's allocation should far surpass Rwanda in terms of infrastructural development. It past leaders Odili,Amaechi and the current Governor decided to not use the allocations judiciously.

Difference is fantastical corruption. Rwanda might only have 10% wasted due to corruption, while Rivers has 90%.

Well, what you consider lies is up to you. There is nothing peculiar about what the politicians in Rivers state are doing. It is the same story nation wide - federal and state governments have been robbing the country blind for over half a century. Has Nigeria used her oil wealth sanely? It's a very simple thing.
