The committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions session of the Senate has on Tuesday asked to consider the request by President Muhammadu Buhari to reappoint the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, for another term of five years.

The President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, at plenary asked the Rafiu Ibrahim-led committee to carry out the assignment and present its report within one week.

Buhari had last week sent an executive communication in which he sought the Senate’s confirmation for Emefiele’s second and final term.

The letter addressed to the President of the Senate and read on the floor, stated in part, “I hereby present for confirmation by the Senate, Mr Godwin Emefiele, for re-appointment as Governor of CBN for the final term of five years.

“It is my hope the distinguished Senate will consider and confirm the nominee with the usual expeditious manner.”
