Sometimes pain is a necessity to grow, to be better.

Intro... CRY

I cried when I was born
I cried to announce my arrival
I cried for the evil in this world
I cried because my tears was my appetizer
I cried for the future awaits
The cry that makes a boy a man
The cry that makes a girl a woman
The cry of love.

Say NO

By the time you finish reading
please don't judge me
I never meant it this way
and I can never blame my shame
I am known to be brilliant
my smiles are always gallant
but it was all a disguise

This is the last year in school
I'm almost done with my books
but all that changed with my mood
I was feeling unwanted; hated
when last did I get a missed call
when last did a knock caress my door
I have friends but they seem gone

Family was supposed to be close
but they are also part of the show
fake smile adorn their face
like they are high on a codeine dose
Dad was having an extra affair
Mum knew of the current affair
the dirt came tumbling of the stairs

I used to have a girlfriend
but she never understood me
she referred to me as weird
the only option was loneliness
so I took the ring and did wed
I am supposed to be in school
I think I'll stay home and be cool

I look at all my results
and weigh in my mind all the reports
I will never have this friends If
I was dull or am I wrong?
I still don't know why I did it
but it was my last solitude

The headlines will read horror
people will blame me and God
people will question my sanity in all
they can never understand it all
this world is a farce
you leave and you become the past
nobody looks back at your path
it grows thorns and weeds
until it is cleared and replaced
people's priorities are displayed
the message is lies and love misplaced
this is my will and testament
live life; my will, love truly; my testament

MY EX

My Ex was beautiful
She was so dutiful
She broke my heart
And left me with a patch

My Ex was not corrupt
She can never be bribed
But I saw her squeeze a note
She shook hands with the driver

My Ex was righteous
She paid her tithe and offering
But she had a suffering congregation
She boxed her offering to get a flight

My Ex was very handsome
He was the bread winner
But he made my face swell like dough
He polished my body like a pane beater

My Ex is here
Your Ex is also there
Our Exes are everywhere

THE HATE I GIVE

I hate my colour
Because they say I'm a monkey
Because I live in ways so primitive
But I love my people

I hate my leaders
They deserve pain and anarchy
They don't lead; they're rulers
But I love my country

I hate the scammers
They have tarnished their image
Bastard offspring from my lineage
But I love the youths.

REMINDERS

Their manifestos remind us
Of how much we are lacking
But less of the amount they're hijacking

Their clothes remind us
Of how much we are broke
But less of the sacrifice of the polls

Their cars remind us
That we are in the twenty first century
But our lands lack the basic necessities.

Family Over Everything

In a world filled with mysteries
where people leave the mind
they only feed their bellies
where sons neglect their mothers
and cling to their girlfriend's smother
I guess love is blind cos
family isn't part of the view

In a world filled with betrayals
where marriage's a work of satire
broken homes now a normal routine
single mums now king of queens
names calling, baits falling
hook, line and marriage sinking
a product of the new world breeding

In a world filled with hate
success is now a cause for dissing
failure now a pulpit for preaching
broken hearts cos we all pray for stitches
when love was on the menu
there was no blame on the chef
but I still prow on the fence

In a world filled with friendships
where people still die alone
so many followers but questions arise
who's gonna follow to the sunset
call ourselves brothers in the means
but we part ways at the end
broken ties all around me
I pray to God cos of my intent

In a world filled with families
but we still hope for unity
my sister put a friend before me
yet blood is still thicker than water
a world blinded in darkness
my deep sleep marred with nightghtmares
caught outside with my light flare
my demons visit me, my family.

Two Names

We are the same as your wives
With thighs opened like bread
We accept the butter spread by knives
We mask our pains behind the pleasure lend

We are the same as your sisters
The ones you refuse to call your own
But the main attraction for your show
We are the useful trash you call litters

We are the same as your daughters
We whisper pleasure to your boredom
We are the pathway to your unholy altars
The only card drawn without need for luck

We are the hands that caressed broken joints
The fake moans that pleased flaccid rods
The real actors who perform bedly stunts
We are two names for one beautiful pod.

No IDENTITY

She has no identity as a man
No knowledge of her past
She is empty like a noisy drum
Her only solitude is in her daily rum
Her present bear no mark of the past
She is a terrorist in the north
She is an agitator in the east
She is an educated snitch in the west
She is a militant in the south
Her footprints bear no blue prints
She is at crossroad with four junctions
She searches for a man
To mend her broken piece
She is scattered as charfs
She bends at will to the touch of the wind
She searches for a king
One to unite her past and present
To reconcile her to one unique piece.

BROTHERS

They are brothers because of the course
Sitting side by side; separate sands in different shores
Smiling yet making theories vividly unsure
Let's finish here, so we go back to our cores

They are without identity forget the tribes
Hypocrites in a heated battle with scribes
Moving from each other like the hands of time
Dancing on the floor of unity laced with landmines

They are only brothers because of the polls
The handshakes and his smile are part of the show
The speech are part payment for the soul
The masses are the shots to score the goals.

CAN'T BE RICH...

I am just a young man
entitled to live poor in this shithole
every 4 years bring a false hope
lies and deceit are our stronghold
when I try to make an honest living
wear good clothes that gives a fitting
forces stop me and question my integrity.

I can't be rich in my country
they think all I can earn is nothing
because they believe all youths are suffering
I look good and I become a 4-1-9
I try to resist and they detain me for-one-night
questions they ask made me stammer

My father calls to me and then advice
when you are travelling to school
pls don't wear that new shoe
stow away your gucci jacket
and always look good
this your new haircut made you look rough
SARS will manhandle you if you look tough
make sure to hide your phone
and always speak in a light tone.

I can't be rich in my country
and yet the days are counting
they called us lazy Nigerian youths
let him view our legit hustle and see the truth
barely twenty-two with a certified education
even when the system is now a financial institution.

O gbodo ridin (don’t be stupid)
O gbodo suegbe (don’t be slow)
O gbodo ya mugun l’Eko (don’t allow yourself to be taken for a fool)

—Words on the plinth of the Agba Meta (Three Elders) statue at the entrance to Lagos

Don't be deceived by your eyes
these likes and love are paid for
these friends are only virtual
these lines might just be bitter

Don't be deceived by the looks
there are filters behind the look
the camera is a beautiful liar
you do not need a facelift

Don't be deceived by the clothes
your accounts may be bigger
these are just frontiers to be safe
these gold might just be painted stone

Don't be deceived by the smiles
behind is an hidden frown
these are just part of the facade
we are just trying to get to tomorrow.
