IPOB is separatist movement, not a political movement. The job of IPOB is to mobilise people to come out and agitate for a referendum or separate state. The people are more important than any elected politician.


If IPOB went into politics and for example, got an IPOB member elected as Governor of Enugu state, what do you think would happen? That Governor would have to swear an oath to protect the unity of Nigeria before he can take office. And after that, if that Governor goes ahead to break his oath of office by supporting IPOB or Biafra, Buhari can easily declare a state of emergency in Enugu state, claiming that the Governor wants to secede Enugu out of Nigeria and the Governor would lose his office to whoever Buhari appoints

In some other countries like Britain, separatist movements might become political parties as it happened in Scotland under the Scottish National Party that won elections and moved a motion for a referendum.

However, Britain is structured along Regional lines so it was possible. Nigeria is not structured that way

It would all be pointless. It would be very stupid for an unarmed group that has no weapon to be declaring independence in the presence of armed Soldiers who have tanks and guns.


The best thing is for IPOB to keep agitating for a referendum and hopefully, when they get one, the people will vote massively for their freedom

Now we Biafrans are beginning to face reality.

Odumegwu Ojukwu too declared The Biafran Declaration of Independence on May 27, 1967 which reads thus:

WE, THE Chiefs, Elders, and Representatives of Eastern Nigeria, gathered at this Joint Meeting of the Advisory Committee of Chiefs and Elders and the Consultative Assembly, do solemnly declare as follows:

WHEREAS we have been in the vanguard of the national movement for the building of a strong, united, and prosperous Nigeria where no man will be oppressed and have devoted our efforts, talents, and resources to this end;

WHEREAS we cherish certain inalienable human rights and state obligations such as the right to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness; the right to acquire, possess, and defend property; the provision of security; and the establishment of good and just government based on the consent of the governed;
