*25 YEARS OF VACANT ORIMOLUSI STOOL*
May 20, 2019 marks exactly 25th year the ancient Orimolusi traditional stool has remained unoccupied since the last custodian joined the ancestors in 1994. Looking down the lane, it is evident that this period has left the town in so much mystery, incapacitated the intellectuals and subjected the entire citizens both home and diasporas to objects of mockery. Being the longest ever recorded interregnum in the history of Orimolusi kingdom, it is reviewed to have invoked more damages to the prestige of the town than ever before culturally, politically and economically.
Before now, the kingdom was a revered institution, which held dignity in the district domains and was worshipped and adorned with charismatic appellations. In the past, at the mention of ORIMOLUSI, every other paved way for *ERIN NLA TI N GBA IDOBALE OBA.* Infact, at a time, one of the previous occupiers of the sacred throne had presided over Ijebuland as the Chairman of Ijebu Divisional Council of traditional rulers. What could be great than this? *Ha ha, ERIN KII SE EGBE AMOTEKUN.* Even during the June 12 election campaign of the then SDP presidential aspirant, Chief MKO Abiola, Ijebu Igbo was so much revered as one among the others forefront towns that must not be neglected during visitation due to the caliber of personalities the town had produced politically, academically and influentially. But looking back today, no doubt that the story has changed bitterly. For this reason it is asked that today, where is that same prestige? No doubt the 25 years vacancy has murdered all the prestige, morals and agitations subjecting the kingdom to both political and traditional marginalization and relegation.
During these years of unwarranted stagnation as it affects major developments, the vacancy has subjected the town to lack of leadership to oversee the customs and traditions of the kingdom, subjecting the deities of the land to be perpetually famished. The one time pride of the town, our royal edifice that had one time become a subject of command for great honour and attraction is now left dilapidated and rotting away in our eyes. Even, the revered stool the other neigbouring communities looked up to in the traditional hierarchy of Ijebuland in the past has become so relegated that it is now historically equated to the likes of lesser Obas. What an insult!
Obviously, Ijebu Igbo is a kingdom of high repute, endowed with enviable mineral, capital and human resources among her contemporaries in Ijebuland but unfortunately, the aftermath of the previous interregnums had deprived the entity the due recognition and promotion in all ramifications. Ijebu Igbo kingdom constitutes of fifteen entities and about other 150 villages that ORIMOLUSI rules over. These entities include Oke-Sopen, Ojowo, Atikori, Oke-Agbo, Japara, Agunboye, Asigidi, Odo Alamo, Aparaki, Imope, Apoje, Abeku and Aiyesan. All these components of the kingdom have the history of their respective settlements. But unfortunately, all these have been left un-catered for, deprived of due government stipends (dividends) due to the interregnum. There had been situations where one or two of the communities had envisaged dissociating self from Orimolusi kingdom due to the aftermath of the interregnum that is traditionally affecting them. It is their agitations that their likes in hierarchy had been promoted and enlisted in Local government payroll as Baales.
In Yoruba land, there are different categories of monarchs: the ones who preside over clans with networks of related towns, where each of the towns has its own Oba e.g Akarigbo, the hierarchy in which Orimolusi ought to belong, but due to lack of vision that had been characterized with ruling families and indifferent posture of the elite mindset in dissociating selves from traditional matters, the kingdom remains where it is today. Though Oba Adeboye as Ijebu Divisional Council Chairman strived to ensure Orimolusi granted the autonomy, but unfortunately death broke the cord. Are we going to continue like this?
In Orimolusi Kingdom, it is pertinent to ask where we are coming from and where we envision to be. To leave a high profiled traditional throne unoccupied for 25 years and no alternative leadership apparatus put in place for the purpose of cultural and infrastructural development, this calls for concerns perhaps our love for the town is just the game of lips. In consequence to this challenge, the endowed natural resources of the land are been carted away unchallenged, several institutional prides of the town are going into extinction and our hierarchical position is been contested in the comity of Ijebu traditional rulers. The boundary is being encroached by the neigbouring communities. Should we fold arms and expect the deities to fight for themselves.
This is a clarion appeal to all concern to rise for the revival of the prestige and glory of the kingdom. In the absence of the paramount ruler, the kingdom can match forward if all the necessary apparatus is put in place. The vacuum is being felt as evident in the infrastructural dilapidations all around the town. A case study is the Technical College in Ijebu Igbo that is already about to be collapsed. Recently, the Provost of the school cried out to the Elders with appeal to salvage the school from total extinction. A lot of challenges before the school to the extent there is proposal for the school to be closed.
This is our heritage and our pride. It must be supported, promoted and developed. The five districts traditional rulers of Ijebu Igbo kingdom should put heads together. This is a case of a father who begets five children. Will the children allow their father’s heritage to collapse?
Lets set aside all historical differences and collectively set a workforce to carry the cross.
In a couple of days, there shall be transition of power and a new Ogun State governor will take over. OMO ORIMOLUSI OOOO, are we going to continue in same paradigm?

I am proud to be a son of the soil. In fact, I want to say a big thanks you to Dr. Saint and other articulated son's and daughters of Ijebu Igbo for their efforts.

My believe is that with time, the ancient town will regain her glory and stand out to be the first, best amongst others.

Very soon the stool of Orimolusi shall be occupied by God sent visionary, endowed and developmental oriented king that will bring about a robust in the socio-economic and growth of our great town soon.

Thanks and remain blessed as we keep praying to God for a greater IJEBU IGBO.
