Lagosians can finally breathe a breath of fresh air as finally, the tanker menace on Lagos roads seem to have disappeared at least for now. In a follow-up exercise carried out by Nelson Ekujumi, he noted that 80% of the tankers and trailers have so far evacuated the road and the road is free from traffic.

Some of the images of show of Dorman Long bridge, Jibowu, National Stadium Surulere bridge, Alaka inward Eko bridge and the diversion into Ijora/Apapa devoid of parked trailers and trucks waiting to go into Apapa port today Monday 27th May 2019 at 9.41am.

However, some of the trailers are still parked on the Ijora 7up bridge inward Apapa on queues to approach the ports as the Presidential directive committee has reduced their stretch and made them totally absent on the Ikorodu road from Onipanu, Jibowu, Dorman Long bridge, Ojuelegba, National stadium Surulere bridge, Alaka Surulere inward Eko bridge and the whole stretch of Eko bridge.

Tankers, trailers and other articulated vehicles that lined up the port access roads in Lagos have been evacuated from the roads.

This follows the seventy-two hours ultimatum from the Presidency.

As at this morning, Apapa road, Eko bridge, Ijora 7up bridge and other locations formerly occupied by trailers and trucks are free of such vehicles.

Their evacuation is supervised by a committee of the Federal Government.

Motorists using that routes pleads with the government that the development is sustained.

They called on the Government to extend the gesture to the Lagos Badagry expressway where trailers and Trucks have taken over three of the four lanes from Alakija to Barracks.

We do hope this is maintained and supervised to the latter, unlike last year when a presidential order was given and it was disobeyed by these trailers and their owners.

AutoReportNG, however, noted that some Dangote trucks were still seen on Eko Bridge despite these order. We also note that the LASTMA officials along with FRSC have been going around with heavy-duty vehicles to toll any truck that defaults these orders.

These are images from Lagos roads this morning.

Sanity finally restored but should it have taken a presidential directive to rid the roads of those articulated trucks?

What is suppose to be the job description of FRSC, LASTMA and other affiliate agencies involved in traffic management in Nigeria?

Unless we start building and empowering institutions in Nigeria , we shall continue to rely on strong personalities to get simple things done.

Sometimes i just sit down and look at Nigeria like maybe some terrestrial forces are at play. Why can’t we at least conduct our self properly for once, why do they need the executive order to do the right thing for God sake.

If I am the president, the first thing I’ll do is to restore sanity to the public. From primary schools up to tertiary institution, communities, government owned parastatals, parks, road, everywhere needs to be sanitized. Our problem is too much, in fact if government build roads, amenities, just give it few years and see how people will destroy them.

Sometimes we just need little effort to develop. Take Rwanda for example, you can’t give tip to anybody, no one’s gonna collect it from you. But in naija you have to give tips, bribe for almost anything you want to get. Even university transcript you need to tip the secretaries, only God can help us.

Finally. It pains me to know that we know the right thing to do but due to the fact that some folks make huge amount from the bad situation, we let it be
Sometimes I ask myself, why can't we get 24hr power supply? Some parts of China and Russia make use of coal to generate electricity so why can't we use the coal in Enugu to do likewise? Why can't we make use of solar energy to generate electricity in the north? Why not make use of gas that exist in the south south to generate power? How come Norway used waste to generate electricity, ran out of waste and had to import from other countries yet we can't replicate
God help us

Unless we start building and empowering institutions in Nigeria, we shall continue to rely on strong personalities to get simple things done.

As much as I agree to a part of your message, however, what we need is not empowering our institutions, they are well empowered as they are, what we need to do is to curb the misappropriation of the powers by the heads of these institutions. For example, the executive order if you look at the critically wasn't really about the truck drivers or their trucks, it was about the people turning the traffic problem into a huge business.

What they do is to use the same power that has been appropriated to them to make unscrupulous ways for themselves by arm twisting the drivers into paying up, the military in apapa for example. So, it is for the heads of these institutions to be law-abiding and patriotic enough to use the powers given to them judiciously. Can u imagine it had to take the president to threaten them before they do right thing with powers with them?

Nigerians are Nigeria's problem. Period!
