Factcheck: Did NASS Delay 2019 Budget For 7 Months As Claimed By Mr Buhari? by Shikini: 11:02am On May 28, 2019 |
Politicians will always be politicians. They are all the same from president, governors, Assembly men, ministers (non-technocrats), ruling party to opposition party. The Nigerian version of a 'Politician' appears worse because of our penchant for deceit and outright lies with intention to blackmail or pass the buck. Factcheck: Did Saraki and Dogara delay 2019 budget for 7 months as claimed by President Buhari in his NTA interview? Below is a countdown to the passage of the 2019 budget 1) December 14, 2018: Buhari writes NASS, says I will present 2019 budget on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 https://punchng.com/buhari-writes-nassembly-says-ill-lay-2019-budget-dec-19/2) December 19, 2018: President Buhari presents the 2019 Appropriation Act to a joint session of the NASS https://tribuneonlineng.com/180032/3) December 19, 2018: NASS adjourned plenary till January 16, 2019 (Christmas and New Year recess) https://www.blueprint.ng/elections-budget-shape-legislative-business-as-nass-resumes-wednesday/4) January 24, 2019: NASS adjourns plenary till after presidential elections (2019 election season) https://www.vanguardngr.com/2019/01/senate-adjourns-plenary-till-after-presidential-poll-fails-to-consider-budget-2019/5) February 16, 2019: NASS planned resumption extended by one week as INEC postpones presidential polls (2019 elections season) https://www.reuters.com/article/us-nigeria-election/nigerian-presidential-poll-postponed-opposition-slams-decision-idUSKCN1Q424I6) February 26, 2019: NASS resumes, failed to form quorum, adjourns again to March 12 after governorship elections (2019 election season) https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/316322-senate-resumes-adjourns-over-inability-to-form-quorum.html7) March 12, 2019: NASS resumes fully after election breaks to focus on 2019 budget (2019 elections are over) http://nigerianpilot.com/nass-resumes-plenary-today-after-election-break/ March 19, 2019: 2019 Appropriation bill passes second reading https://www.channelstv.com/2019/03/19/2019-appropriation-bill-passes-second-reading-at-senate/9) March 19, 2019: NASS warns ministers and heads of MDAS to show up for budget defence and stop delaying it's passage https://www.vanguardngr.com/2019/03/2019-budget-defense-this-is-not-the-time-to-travel-senate-warns-ministers-heads-of-mdas/10) April 30, 2019: Senate passes 2019 budget 4-months after submission to NASS https://www.pulse.ng/news/local/senate-passes-2019-budget-4-months-after-submission-to-nass/xqnytmm11) May 2, 2019: NASS to transmit approved 2019 budget for president's assent https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/national-assembly-transmits-2019-budget-to-buhari-on-thursday.html12) May 27, 2019: President Buhari signs 2019 budget https://punchng.com/breaking-buhari-signs-2019-budget/*** My OBSERVATION: The 2019 budget spent exactly 4 months and 13 days with NASS ( Dec 19, 2018 - May 2, 2019). How the president arrived at 7-months is unclear. Besides, submitting a budget to NASS on December 19th few days into Christmas/New Year recess was very late. The executive should have been more proactive or 'patriotic' by submitting the budget much earlier (say September 2018) knowing the first quarter of 2019 was already locked down for general elections.

APC and propaganda are one and the same thing. It's unfortunate a country's president gets so deeply involved in propaganda.
By right, a president should only speak FACTS. Citizens should be able to take their president's words to the bank. In Nigeria, the opposite is the case.
I remember recently when president Buhari kept playing up the issue of Obasanjo spending $16b on power. I mean, this is a country's president with access to every record and knows deep down his heart that there was never a $16b anywhere spent on power 5 Likes 5 Shares |

You went through all these needless stress for nothing. Is it that your comprehension went on holidays or you came from Mars., or you're willfully deceptive. A simple google search would have saved you of this needless pseudo intelligence (or should I call it "fart-check" President Muhammadu Buhari has signed the 2018 appropriation bill containing the year’s federal spending details as approved by the National Assembly.[Date =20th June 2018]
Mr Buhari signed the budget at about 12 noon on Wednesday inside his office at the presidential villa Abuja.
The total budget is N9.1 trillion, up from the N8.6 trillion estimates he submitted to the Assembly on November 7, 2017.
I leave you to do the math....or do you want to "fart-check" that too? 2 Likes |
