Jumia Nigeria, has disclosed that prices of smartphones would continue on a downward trajectory in the country.

The company stated this during the launch of the 2019 Nigeria Mobile Report at its head office in Lagos over the weekend.

During the presentation of the report, Jumia said the major driver of the trend was attributed to the influx of Asian brands specifically targeted for the Nigerian market.

Omolola Onasanya, Head of Vendor Operations and Experience, Jumia Nigeria, speaking on the development, said that smartphone prices had been on steady drop since 2014.

According to her, the average price of smartphones continued on a downward trajectory, as it dipped to $95 in 2018, from $117 in 2016 and $216 in 2014.

This development, Onasanya said was laudable as again, the major driver of this trend was attributed to the influx of Asian brands specifically targeted for the Nigerian market.

“Asian brands have consistently enjoyed massive patronage because of their Africa-specific strategy of introducing lower price point smartphones into the Nigerian market.

“In 2018, Fero, Samsung, Nokia, Infinix and Tecno remained the customers’ favourites and the top-selling mobile brands on Jumia.

I am amazed that a 16mp camera Samsung mobile with camera aperture of F1.7, can be sold for ₦72,000 currently, am surprised. The smartphone market is really becoming competitive and interesting.

Tecno finally forcing other brands to drop their prices

What Rubush is this one saying? May be the fear of other cheap, quality but superior brands entering Nigeria has forced useless tecno to bring down it price.

When Xiaomi k20 pro with SD 855 and OPPO F11 with Mediatek P70 is 130 range, how will tecno get mind to slam 130 on their useless Phantom with mediatek p35 as usual. Phone price must drop now, we that knows what up has been saying it since last year that once Xiaomi enters Nigeria, Tecno will be forced to improve on their quality and price.
