The Nigerian Professional Football League season is gradually coming to a close after 22 matchdays in an abridged 24-team league format before the playoffs where the winner for the 2019 season will be determined. Only last season, the league was stopped after the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the leadership tussle within the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) on matchday 24 which resulted in Lobi Stars becoming champions by virtue of being on top of the league at the time.
