They produce.

They are also the international standard for currencies.

Apple is richer than all of Africa if I am right.

What of Amazon?

They produce while we consume.

We need to start thinking differently.

I have always said it that every successive govt this country has ever had, have always taken us into deeper mess. The military took the naira from N0.658 to the dollar and dumped it at about N88/dollar by 1999. The Pdp took it from that point and dump it at about N300/dollar by 2015. Apc took it from that point to even up to N530/dollar at some point. The same sets of individuals keep recycling themselves in different forms in govt and that is why we keep getting the same results.

Wisdom gushes from your mouth like a fountain. Pray give our politicians to drink and be satisfied lest we all fall into oblivion.

This currency will not stop depreciating until a law or a bill is passed to monitor what the president , senate president , speakers , reps , governors has done each year, and to probe each of then at the end of each year.
If not nothing will move on in this country. Since all of them knows that once they finished 4 year term, they will go for another term or another position. So until they are been probe each year ,jail the failure once, nothing will move in this country

You are correct, and right, but the only way to get a strong currency is to do what other countries with strong currencies do.....become strong industrially, and export lots of industrial goods and services aborad.

IBB through his IMF-induced Structural Adjustment Programme initiated the death of the Nigerian naira.
Abacha added his own to it and afterwards, successive PDP governments gave the naira 1000% loss of value from about N20/$ they met it to N200/$.
Sharp decline in oil prices from 2014 led us to another 80% decline in value to the current N360/$.

IBB and PDP are the worst things to ever happen to Nigeria.

Sometimes I wonder where these brainless zombies creep out from. How did they register on nairaland

PDP that left rate at #200 is also being blamed while shielding Buhari and APC that took it from #200 to #363 within a mere 4 years.
Re: Naira - Dollar Exchange Rate From 1972 Till Date by Kirinwa: 12:51pm On May 31, 2019
PDP took it from #148 to #199 within 8 years(#51 increase)..

APC took it from #199 to #363 within just 4 years!

Thats a whooping #164!!!

If you check, from the times when the naira was 0. against the dollar, we had a vibrant economy and exports.

Since we started depending on oil, down went our economy, the dollar started controlling the market.
Although oil is a curse to our economy but the problem doesn't laid on oil alone. We defend so much on foreign goods, hence it as rendered our Economy/Naira useless.

It's a matter of import and export

Your currency can never be strong if you are import driven economy. How can all the governor's, ministries patronizing foreign made goods including vehicles. We have a local manufacturing vehicle. How can you be exporting crude and importing refined product via subsidy? Once Dangote refinery starts functioning it will help in our forex. The refinery will really help a lot. Our manufacturing needs to spring up. But it will happen when we have constant electricity. Thanks to gas generating plants that is sustaining most manufacturing companies in Nigeria. UAE are diversifying into tourism. Like wise other Arab oil nations

THE REALITY IS THE NAIRA LOST RECOVERY FROM 1986 AFTER IBB OVERTHREW BUHARI. PRIOR TO THAT EVEN WHEN BUHARI WAS IN POWER THE NAIRA STILL HAD VALUE MORE THAN THE DOLLAR AND STILL HAD A SOLID GROUND CONTRARY TO THE TWISTED LIES THE EVIL ENEMIES OF THE STATE PERPETRATE.

IBB DESTROYED NIGERIA. HE MADE WIDE SCALE CORRUPTION ACCEPTABLE AND A WAY OF LIFE.

HE PERFECTED THE ACT OF CORRUPTION.

HE IS A CURSE TO NIGERIA AND HE WILL BURN IN A SPECIAL HELL WHERE HE BELONGS.

Nigerians.

When would you realise no country can be prosperous if it doesn't produce?

You are 200 million people depending on 2 million barrels of oil a day.

Your entitlement if oil is sold at 100 dollars per barrel (which it isn't) is 1 dollar a day.

Go out and produce.

For how long would you continue to lament?

Day after day, year after year.

Produce and serve if you would be complaining about the exchange rate.

The only sensible comment here

Kip believing o. I'm not a child of hate, I'm a realistic person, u get things wrong by believing things will get better yet ordinary 24hrs electricity supply, Nigeria cannot offer you. Countries are flying, Nigeria is reversing and u believe things will b better. We've the population, we've the resources, what is it that the country is lacking? Good leaders and unless the right leaders are not voted, my brother no b u or prayer go change Nigeria status.

Again, where are the economic and financial experts preaching and writing about how Structural Adjustment and Devaluation were going to propel Nigeria into manufacturing and exporting country?

Where are those condemning Buhari for refusing "sound" economic advice to devalue Naira?

Did you know Buhari refused Structural Adjustment and Babangida used it as excuse after he was overthrown and IBB implemented Structural Adjustment?

When you criticize someone blindly for no other reason than your own personal parochial interest, no matter what, you will always end up an abysmal failure.

Criticize Buhari in the right places such as Fulani mauraders, farm raiders and lopsided appointments so that reasonable people can vouch for your credibility instead of tribal mongering.

The PDP left it at N186/1$. It skyrocketed to N300/1$ within months of the APC. In 16 years the PDP increased the exchange rate by less than 120% but in less than 6 months the APC increased by more than 120%. It's clear that the incompetence of the APC, their wrongly formulated fiscal policies and their inability to even implement those policies is the reason why Nigeria is in this moribund situation. The PDP certainly could have done better but the APC made promises to Nigerians, promises of a better future yet in four years they have effectively destroyed our future.
Why you PDP sycophants dey lie without shame?
First of all, the exchange rate was actually $1 to N199 when Ebelemi handed over. You no need reduce am to N189.

Secondly, the shameless international thief, Atiku, & his boss that you are supporting to come & destroy Nigeria again met the exchange rate at $1 to N21.89 in 1999 & after their first term in 2003 took it to $1 to N127. That alone is a whooping 480% increase. Where did you get your "120%" maths from? You no go school?
