British Court seized Abacha loot worth £211m by mediaNGR: 12:29pm On Jun 04, 2019
Money laundered by former Nigerian dictator and army general Sani Abacha has been seized from a bank in Jersey, Channels Islands by a British court.

The money worth £211,000,000 was put into accounts held in Jersey by Doraville Properties Corporation, a British Virgin Island company.
Abacha was a Nigerian army officer and de facto president between 1993 until his death in 1998. During this period, he laundered money through the United States to the Channels Island.

The money will be held by the government until authorities in Jersey, the US and Nigeria come to an agreement on how it should be distributed.
Any money that Jersey does keep will be put into the Criminal Confiscation Fund, which is used to pay for a variety of projects. In the past the fund has been used for the new police station and developments at La Moye Prison.
It is expected that even more money held by Doraville is likely to be seized and paid into the Civil Asset Recovery Fund in the future.

Metro UK reports that, Attorney General Robert MacRae said: ‘In restraining the funds at the request of the United States of America, through whose banking system the funds were laundered prior to arriving here, and in achieving the payment of the bulk of the funds into the Civil Asset Recovery Fund, Jersey has once again demonstrated its commitment to tackling international financial crime and money laundering.’

It is most certain that the money Abacha allegedly stole and laundered must have been from the crude oil sale and deals.
If this position is true, how do we conveniently divorce Abacha's theft from his petroleum minister?

Imagine, Nigeria's money is being used to build infrastructure in another country, but when we tell these bastards to stop looting, their offline and online animals come to defend them under the guise of religion, tribe or party affiliation. This was a military dictator from the North who was hated by the entire country, so not much could be done against him. But what saddens me is that the democratically elected ones too are following the same trend, using the same military constitution to defraud Nigerians.

James Ibori was arrested and jailed for money laundering, he used the money to develop estates in South Africa, not even his own country.
Same thing the likes of Alison Dieziani did, looting money and buying properties home and abroad. The like of Tinubu & Co want to own everything in the country, up North, Ganduje caught collecting dollars on video wasn't tried because he had immunity...

I hope this country won't become another Somalia before politicians realize that they're shooting themselves in the foot. The money you're looting today, your generations after will pay for it.

PS: Seun lalasticlala you guys need to do something about the idiots posting bet9ja and sex positions on Nairaland... Like the idiot below me... angry

“Nigeria is awaiting receipt from Swiss Govt. of $320 million, identified as illegally taken from Nigeria under Abacha” – Buhari @NGR President, 5:09 PM – 27 APR 2016
That's what your link quotes Buhari as saying. And the article is an editorial by ipob journalist Ochereome Nnanna trying to translate the quote into "Buhari never stole"
Can you please help me with the link where Buhari actually said Abacha never stole?
