A student of the Obafemi Awolowo University shares his experience so far on facebook.

His experience during his stay goes thus:

OAU is a great place to learn and grow. Very strong alumni relationships. Your studentship is bound to bring experiences you can learn from. I’m not an old man but courtesy of OAU, I have permanent life friends that I am certain we will be together for long and permanent enemies too who we can’t just sit at the same table without someone throwing the other a blow. I’ve met and interacted with various types of people.
I could have gone to UI as at then. But I’ve never for a day regretted the decision to come to OAU. The Union was(is) a good place to learn how human beings behave. Most people can sell their integrity for a very thin slice of cake. For someone brought up to believe public money should be guarded and kept for public use, I arrived OAU and discovered some didn’t get the same home training. My experiences from that period contributes to my doubts on if Nigeria can ever be good. Young boys who have absolutely no reason to steal still do it.
There are great lecturers who have distinguished themselves over years in the academics with good reputation. I am yet to meet a poor teacher in OAU. I have only met Lecturers who cannot really transmit the knowledge. But I’m yet to really see a lecturer undeserving of being one. Very sound minds are on the campus.
For those of us whose fathers cannot squeeze out private university fees, OAU became a sort of paradise.
The dream of those who established the institution is still alive even if faint. They wanted a place where minds could interact. For learning and culture. Sports and struggle. That’s what it is known for still even if recent events are attacking this legacy.
For those who opt for OAU. It is the best place to do what you have in mind as a student. You want to dance? Welcome. You want to party? Welcome. You want to go to church and pray your soul away? Welcome. You want to read? Welcome Bro. You want to be serious? Kaabo. You want to be unserious? Welcome too.
You will end up doing what you want. That’s just it.
The experience cannot be gotten elsewhere. It would be wrong to paint an all-nice picture. There are challenges. Some of them have led to long-standing agitations which I was involved in actively. All the same, it isn’t all-bad too.
