Lagos – Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has berated the volume of smuggled goods coming into Nigeria through the Republic of Benin.

Dangote spoke at a stakeholders’ session in Lagos between the private sector and the Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.

He said smuggling activities from the Benin Republic route is killing manufacturing in Nigeria.


His words: “Smuggling is killing Nigeria and most of these smuggled goods come from the Benin Republic. There is no country that can survive with Benin Republic as a neighbour.

Dangote is misguided. He should face Federal Gov to provide 24hrs electricity. So that manufacturers can produce goods which will make smuggling seem expensive.

Currently, what can a Nigerian manufacturer produce with Diesel generator that will be cheaper than what is coming from Benin republic?

Dangote always on point. And if you meet them outside, they start pretending and spoiling Nigerians. Won't say they are evil, but most of them are very pranky. Most I have met can easily be bought.

We cannot compare ship loads of goods smuggled in and out of Nigeria through Benin Rep to mere donkey loads through Niger and Chad. Here we are talking of the scale, quantity or volume of the goods. Dangote is giving a sincere wake-up call to the nation to do something for the economy to improve. Take it or leave it his business is flourishing but Naija we are doomed if action not taken.

So should Nigeria build a WALL like Trump's Wall on America-Mexico border? Then make Benin pay for the wall. This is to limit the influx of contraband goods.
Or should Nigeria invade and ANNEX Benin like Russia did on Crimea, after all, they are Yoruba people? This is to take over their ports and stop unsanctioned goods.
