Long ago, I was talking to a popular businessman in Abuja, Nigeria, and he told me he would never pay for any of his employees to go for training of any kind because he does not want them to become better at their jobs and end up leaving his company for somewhere better (he runs about four businesses where he employs almost 70 staff). As a job seeker, you should avoid these kinds of places because their company culture does not encourage your growth or wellbeing.

You will read about company culture from a lot of experts, but what does it mean? A lot of job seekers and even company employees believe that a company/organization has a good company culture when they have a subsidized fee for food at the staff cafeteria or when the staff members have daily access to video games at the office after the closing of the business.

However attractive these steps may be, it is not company culture. The concept of company culture stems from the company/organization taking action to better the lives of their employees, which is not a common characteristic in a lot of places. Some companies/organizations have taken major steps in ensuring that their employees are properly taken care of in the workplace.
