The Minister for Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, has told Nigerians that since the power sector has been privatized, it is really not the federal government’s problem if power supply remains poor across the nation.

He said,

“There are problems without a doubt and we must deal with them. But let me remind you, all of the assets that the Ministry of Power used to control for power have been sold by the last administration before I came. And so if you don’t have power, it is not the government’s problem. Let us be honest.

So since the last administration sold electricity asset, the present government cannot build on that or sanction electricity distribution that does not live up to expectation. I believe there is a clause in the agreement sign between the federal government and the DISCOS.

There are measures the FG can take to force power companies to make sure people get power but if they try it we, the people will start labeling the administration tyrant, dictator, and all sorts of names. They can teach a lesson to one or two of the power companies and the rest will quickly learn and do the right thing to deliver power to consumers. The FG is afraid of the people rising against it if they take drastic measures against the power companies.
