With all the education... the degrees.... can't the graduates use all the knowledge they acquire to find a better source of income? I can understand if street sweepers are paid a whole lot... comparable with their mates in offices.

Education is not always degrees acquisition.
An educated individual amongst these will start as a street sweep, rise through the ranks to management position one simply by applying his/her intelligence in service.
Some will rise fast by diligence while others will remain stagnant with lacklustre performance on the job.
Earnest Shonekan started as a clerk in uac but rose through the ranks to become the CEO after yrs of service as with many other less notable people did and are still doing but not popular anyone because Young graduates want to start as CEO.
30yrs ago a degree could guarantee you a job because very few people had degree in the entire population but nowadays, with millions having Masters the competition is still.
So, throw that "have degree but no job" mentality away.
