Especially in Nigeria

Level 12 is just some form of compensation
Its peanuts compared to what other doctors earn overseas

Since work plenty for engineering grads, why una dey find government work?

I was going through the Nigeria Prison Entry Level for graduate and I noticed that those with M.B.B.S or Doctors are automatically on Level 12 immediately they are recruited.

Other medical courses are giving more preference in Level than others

Considering the years it will take for someone on grade 08 to reach grade 12 in Federal Government Job you will know that it's quite not fair

But what confused me was Almighty Engineering courses were placed on level 08

It's quite disheartening that we that studied Engineering for 5yrs, solved all those mathematics and spent so much are placed with other courses who studied 4yrs on the same entry level which is level 8 in Federal Jobs

Please I need your taking on this

I think Buhari changed Engineering to level 9! For doctors, they are running away to Canada even with the level 12!

An average Nigerian engineer has no ready contribution. You are only being employed to assist you. You cant design anything. You cant troubleshoot. You cant contribute to anything meaningful. They dont see you as a professional. A Nigerian engineer is almost useless. If you think you can solve maths, who maths elp? Others read Maths/Computer they may even solve it better.

You made too much sense, till engineering students recognize that solving Jacobian theorems, Vectors etc can't solve real world problems and start embracing practicals and field work, nothing for them

Engineering is level 9

Before, medical doctors entered service on grade level 9 while the rest of us enter on 8 but after the 2009 negotiation of salary structure, medical doctors started entering service on grade level 12 while we enter at that same 8 to maintain relativity.

It boils down to the perception of society of the various professions. Even parents, family and friends give preference to those studying medcine. Technically, the wards of the rich are the ones who have the wherewithal in terms of education, resources and connections to secure admissions into medical schools. Imagine a son negotiating salaries with a father? You can guess the outcome. The question is, is that the practice and standard the world over?

Moreover, medical students are conditioned to only receive and not give by people who often believe that doctors always end up as rich people and they may be needing their assistance in the future. Maybe financially or to save their lives.

I know COREN holder dat was given level 9 not because of COREN but because of years of experience, I have also seen a PhD holder day was given level 8 recently too.

I thought I'd seen the last of these engineering is on same level as medicine wailers. Engineering is 5 years before NYSC. Medicine is 6 years minimum (I know fellas who have repeated multiple times) after which two years of houseman ship then NYSC. So the doctor actually spends three more years in school.

Medicine is far more rigourus than engineering especially in Nigeria where engineering dubs it best is a popular catch phrase.

In every western nation, doctors are the highest paid salaried employees. This even applies in the middle east with migrant workers.

I suggest you stop wailing about something you do not have the stones to go through with. Amazing that educated Nigerians are jealous of people charged with keeping them healthy.

One of the reasons is the risks involved in the training. Right from school, as early as 400L, medical students will be meeting with patients with different kinds of ailments while all of you are in class "jacking". There's is little or no risk in reading. This does not mean I like the way workers are treated in Nigeria.

Being a doctor does not imply in anyway that you are smarter than anyone. As a matter of fact, the engineers and other tech specialists may be smarter considering the creativity that's going on in these fields.

Doctors are physicians and dentists under the regulation of Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, (MDCN). Opticians are not doctors. However, Optometrists are doctors, but not under the regulation of MDCN. Physicians and dentists start on level 12 which is equivalent to CONMESS 3, step 3. However, optometrists earn much lower than the physicians and dentists. I hope I have enlightened you.

With COREN is SGL 09 and this was only approved last year December at Owerri.
Now for an Engineering graduate to obtain COREN it will take him another 4 years after NYSC(After 4 years you sit for The Nigerian Society of Engineers exams, when successful you can now apply for COREN) and for a polytechnic graduate you must have your Pgd (Pgd in Engineering is minimum of two years)then Wait for another 2 years before sitting for The Nigerian Society of Engineers exams, when you pass you can now apply for COREN. In this case you need approximately 5 years.

In summary to become a COREN registered Engineer you need minimum of 9 years.(Counting from 100 Level or ND 1)

This is why I love this forum because enlightened folks from all walks of life gather here to take you on whatever you need to know.

In summary, the gap in the levels should be reduced.Haba! Five years nor be beans o.But wait, the jobs are presently not available for one to talk about the difference in level
