Balarabe Musa, a former governor of old Kaduna, said former presidents may have shunned the Democracy Day celebrations because of fear - Musa recalled how President Buhari vowed to name and shame all those behind massive corruption in the country - The elder statesman added that the former presidents could have shunned the event because they are not comfortable with Buhari's style Balarabe Musa, an elder statesman in Nigeria, has identified fear as one of the reasons former presidents of the country may have shunned the June 12, democracy day celebrations held recently. Musa, a former governor of old Kaduna state, said in an interview with Vanguard that the former presidents may have been frightened by the way President Muhammadu Buhari went about the celebrations and what he said two days to the event. The politician, who, however, said he was not excited with the speech the president presented during the ceremony, added that the former presidents could be afraid that they might be indicted if Buhari decides to investigate the circumstances that led to the annulment of the June 12, 1993 election and other issues surrounding it. “Well, it could be for two reasons. First, President Buhari may have threatened them though he does not have the capacity to carry it out. “For instance, if he takes the recognition of June 12, further by investigating it, they could be afraid because they may be involved in the annulment. It was a military affair and most of them held sensitive positions then that could implicate them. “Secondly, two days before June 12, celebration, President Buhari made a very vital statement. He said his government would name and shame all those behind the disabling level of corruption, stealing and waste of resources,” he said. The former governor argued that former presidents were responsible for the disabling level of corruption the country is in. He added: “Military brought the disabling level of corruption since they took over and it has affected governance so they are afraid of Buhari. He could deal with them for being behind this disabling level of corruption.” He added that a third reason could be that the former presidents are not happy with the administration of President Buhari and, as a result, do not want to identify with him. Legit.ng earlier reported that foremost playwright and Nobel Prize winner, Prof Wole Soyinka, stated that he would not participate in the June 12 democracy day celebrations as he condemned the conduct of the 2019 elections in an essay made available to newsmen.

So Balarabe Musa has joined in singing the corruption chorus.
I thought the man was sensible.
So Obasanjo, Abdulsalami, GEJ, IBB, are all scared Buhari could call their names next to corruption as if it would be new thing.
How senseless an old man could be.
Indeed, fools get old too.

"...First, President Buhari may......takes the recognition of June 12, further by investigating it, they could be afraid because they may be involved in the annulment. It was a military affair and most of them held sensitive positions then that could implicate them. And same Buhari was not part of the then late Gen.Sanni Abacha military junta that was part of the pre/post June-12 annulment & military lay hold to power?
“Secondly, two days before June 12, celebration, President Buhari.....said his government would name and shame all those behind the disabling level of corruption, stealing and waste of resources,”And so a Buhari that has been part & parcel of the rot in military govt since the late Murtala regime till his effortless ouster by IBB in 1985 & whose civillian regime has been corruption personified is afterwards invincible to corruption? Talking about Buharideens and Buharimaniacs
We can see, therefore, that President Buhari’s anti-corruption fervour is merely self-serving. He regards only his political opponents as having the copyright on corruption. By this token, every allegation of corruption leveled against his friends and financiers must be “baseless.” https://opinion.premiumtimesng.com/2018/10/23/president-buhari-is-not-against-corruption-by-femi-aribisala/
He added that a third reason could be that the former presidents are not happy with the administration of President Buhari and, as a result, do not want to identify with him.Buhari is a catastrophic failure & election rigger no sensible past or to come leader wants to associate with.

It's better to keep quiet than say thing that does not correlate..
The leaders may have decided not to come for their personal reasons, but to say it's because of fear of Buhari does not just make any sense.

Wherever Abiola is now will be angry with Buhari cos all I see is Buhari using his name to play politics.

Said this in an earlier thread but nairaland children without sense of history insulted d life out of me.
While prominent northerners like Shehu Sani and Dan Suleiman were either in jail or exile due to their support for june 12,Buhari was in bed with Abacha but has suddenly come to declare june 12 public holidays.
