What pages should my website have?

Every business website owner has probably asked that question before…
Especially when you’re building a new website…

You’ve wondered, how many pages should I have on my website. To answer your question, there’s technically no limit to the number of pages you should have on your website.

I mean you can have as many pages on your website as you want.

But there are some pages that are so important that each website must have it.

So here below I’m going to list some of these essential pages for a website you should have…

Home page. Your home page is the most important page on your website.

It’s where you’ll have a summary of what your website is all about displayed in both pictures and words.

Despite it’s importance, some websites may decide they don’t really need a home page.

This mostly happens with blogs…

So while designing a blog, instead of getting a home page, you may decide to show your blog posts in a chronological order on the blog.

This is done so when ever people visit your blog, the first thing they will see is your posts not a home page.

This works best for websites that don’t have a lot of other things to do apart from blogging.

Asides from blogs, a home page is very important for websites.

Your home page should be able to display a summary of your website on a single page.

It is the door to your website so you have to make it attractive, welcoming and compelling.

About page. This is another page that’s very important as far as your website is concerned.

Your About Page is important because it contains all the information about your website.

So you’ll want to use your about page to tell the website users about the website, the people behind the website and possibly, the idea or reason why you started your website.

Remember your about page also has to be really compelling…

This is another place you can use to market yourself, the stuff you do and get your readers to buy into your website and the vision behind it.

What we do. Some people call it services. This page displays everything you do with your website in details.

While your home page summarizes what you do, the Services/What we do page gives more details.

If you’re running an e-commerce website for instance, you can use this page to talk about the products you sell and how you go about selling it.

Anything that differentiates you from the competition.

Same goes if you’re selling other items on the site without necessarily being an ecommerce website.

Contact page. Your contact page should include details of how your website users can contact you effortlessly.

Here you’ll want to add contact details like office address, phone numbers, emails and any other contact information you’d want to add.

To further simplify how people get to access you, you might want to include forms like contact forms, quotation and link everything to your central email address.

Although this is not really necessary, you may also want to add your social media handles so users can follow you directly.

Product page. A product page comes in handy when you’re selling a product on your website.

Although it is recommended you make your products very visible on your website’s home page…

It is still important to have a separate products page if you’re featuring products on your website.

So instead of calling it product page, you can decide to make it like a gallery page where you display your products based on their categories.

If you’re not selling products on your, this page is not necessary.

FAQ.
Frequently Asked Questions has become one of the most popular pages on websites recently.

Instead of waiting for a user or prospect to ask you questions about your website directly, you can gather all the popular questions, that’s likely to be asked, answer and update them on the FAQ page.

With this done, a user with questions can quickly find answers to their questions right on the website, without having to contact you personally.

Testimonial Page. This is one very important page for show off.

By show off here, I’m talking about social proof.

Your testimonial shows your users what other people are saying based on their experience with you.

It could be about your product, services or even use of the website… It shows some authenticity and a proof you’re what you claim to be.

Make your testimonial page stand out with the nice things people say about you.

You may also add pictures of people giving testimonial or just their names, depending on what you and the people giving the testimonial are comfortable with.

Blog.
A blog is technically not a page. It is a collection of your posts on the website.

It can also be a section of the website. And sometimes a whole website could be a blog.

Like I said earlier, your blog basically should show all your posts on the website.

If you usually put out news and press release on your website, it will automatically be shown on your blog page too.

In a situation where you don’t want certain posts to be displayed in the blog section, you can find a way to exclude them with a plugin.

Privacy Policy/Terms and conditions. This page is one of the recently most important pages you need on a website

Most websites usually merge the two pages together…

Others still keep them separate. This can be easily seen in most big companies and organizations’ websites.

Your privacy policy shows a user how the information you get from them will be used.

While the terms and conditions tells them about the terms that accompanies usage of the website.

In some countries, it is very important you have the privacy and terms and conditions page on your website.

In any case whether it’s a must have in your country or not, it is good you have this page on your website.

Now while these are not the only web pages you need on your website, depending on what you need, you can have more or even less page than this.

One thing you’ll always want to consider while setting up your website is that certain pages are very important to the success of your website…

Also for purposes of best practices and to create a great user experience, some pages must be put in place.

So how many of these pages are very important to your website and how would you like us help you?

Let’s hear from you…

Portfolio pages are also important. However, it depends on the kind of business you are into.
