The Super Eagles will on Saturday July 6 take on the Indomitable Lions of Cameroun in a Round of 16 knock-out game at the on-going Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2019.
Contrary to earlier projections that Nigeria will meet Ghana in the R16 game on the analysis that Cameroun will easily beat Benin Rep in their Group F game to top the Group, the Lions could only play a goalless draw with Squirrels to finish second behind the Black Stars of Ghana who beat Guinea- Bissau 2-0.
Other than the 1984,1988 and 2000 AFCON finals which Cameroun won, Nigeria is yet to lose to Cameroun in any other stage at the AFCON. The most recent meeting between Nigeria and Cameroun at AFCON was a 2-1 win for Nigeria in the quarter-finals of Tunisia2004. Both sides last meeting was in 2017 during the Russia 2018 qualifiers when Nigeria won 4-0 at Uyo courtesy of goals from Mikel Obi, Odion Ighalo and Victor Moses while the reverse fixture in Yaounde ended 1-1 with Moses Simon scoring for Nigeria.
