We go to library to read and make research, that’s the fundamental need a typical library serves; but a library has a bigger album at the background, what you go there to meet is the finished part. This is just a tip of what library science has to offer; getting a degree in library science and maybe a PhD is such a big accomplishment owing to the level of complications that surrounds it.

I was opportune to meet University of Uyo library science undergraduates who were trying to get over a class puzzle. At first, I wondered what was so special and frightful about library science; then One of the professors came, picked a catalogue as big as an oxford dictionary and as long as magazine and guess what!! She just located a name, a number and few things I couldn’t just understand and she solved the puzzle which was supposed to help them locate a research material for students. The story hasn’t ended yet, here are other facts I got to realize about getting a degree in library science;

Division of labor inspite of current digitization
One fact about library science is that it still upholds the principle of classicism which includes division of labor even with the innovation of digitization. There are people whose basic job is to pack books and resource materials back to their usual position, some check you in and out, some are in charge of registration, some are in charge of reserved materials, some are in charge of recording and just like that. The level of digitization may likely not affect the protocols in libraries except the world goes entirely digital.

Library science is indeed science
The technicality in library science studies is massive; it’s so peculiar that if you don’t know, you don’t know it till you are taught. Use of acronyms is their thing, ofcourse they can’t do without figures, records, documentation and identity.

Your degree can fetch you cool public and private jobs
Your library science degree can fetch you a good job in the public sector both at the federal, state and local level. I mean you can work in a federal or state records unit in any parasternal; you can also work in a library. You can also be lecturer of library science if you wish to continue in the academia.
