Majority of the public really think the worth of these companies as put forward by media houses like Forbes and Brandt are the amount they have in the bank, if they had such money in the bank The USA would borrow from them instead of China. The worth of these companies are a culmination of their assets, profit from sales, investments and most importantly stock. Aliexpress may make more sales than Amazon and have more money in their account than Amazon but Amazon definitely owns the stock market than them. American companies have always topped those lists because of their capitalist nature and most importantly because of the ordinary citizens familiarity with words like New York Stock Exchange and Wall Street. Zuckerberg for instance was reported to have lost 30 Billion dollars last year by Forbes. Was money in his account stolen? Obviously No. His worth is his shares or stocks and how much they are selling at that time. For instance if Apple has 100 million units of ordinary shares selling at 1000 dollars each, Apple will therefore be estimated to be at worth at least 1 trillion dollars, if the price of those shares fall to 10 dollars per unit their worth drastically reduces to 1 billion dollars. This way Apple Can be worth 1 trillion dollars this week and drop to 100 Billion dollars by next week and therefore lose 900 billion dollars at the stock market. Americans have an enlightened population of those who invest in the stock market. Facebook's only source of income is advertising which means media houses like CNN and Sky Sports would worth same as facebook or more if their value was reliant on profit from sales. However, the American Stock exchange market favours American companies. In the US, charity organisations and Schools purchase shares of companies ,even companies purchase shares from other companies. This knowledge of stock market investment is what Africa and Asia lacks, and Europeans are not really interested in. If we had a good stock market in Nigeria, Nairaland would definitely be a billion dollar company. Easiest way to make money even without a single sale is the stock market that's why MTN created awareness when they wanted to make their brand valuable after their judicial loss. Twitter is a fortune 500 company and sold their first adverts space only 3 years ago. The United State rules the earth whether we admit it or not. Take a look at this companies and you discover 90% of them are US companies. Russia lovers and American haters can see the fact but will pretend like they are blind because they hate America but the funny thing is that they we be the first to rush to get American visa. martineverest: Bros. Google is still very powerful. Go and check Gartner magic quadrant for cloud, they are leading behind AWS and Azure. Android is one tiny aspect Google's products. Most of the satnavs is powered by Google not to talk of some major IoTs coming up nowadays. Who thinks if any other search engine to use? Have you ever heard Google go down for a minute? They have a very resilient and high availability systems ..their data centres is spread across the globe. Companies cannot do without Google! Avoid them at your peril. All what you're saying now is only based on what is happening now but there is no stable or fixed future for the internet. You also misunderstood my point about crypocurrency. Google and Facebook has more advantages, I only give them one to two years to come with something new and you wouldn't be saying this anymore. Internet was, is and will always remain unpredictable. Don't be too much carried away with the little you know today. Tomorrow something else happens and it will all be a different story again. Internet will always be one world that is unstable, unpredictable and dynamic. It will be parochial for anyone to hold to the moment like it's the final say. |
