According to media reports, A local fisherman identified simply as Pewo has been found dead at the shores of Brass Island, Brass Local Government Area, Bayelsa State.

The fisherman said to be 43 reportedly went fishing on Sunday evening but failed to return while his son, who accompanied him was said to be missing.

The deceased, who hails from Ogbokiri, was suspected to have drowned alongside his son following rising tide and high current at the ocean.

The boy, who was identified as Erogbanyon Pewo, was one of the six children of the deceased.

Confirming the incident, Youth Leader of Sangana fish town, Akassa clan, Kune Johnbull, said the incident followed a heavy storm that affected structures and properties in the communities.

He said: “It even affected our roofs and caused serious roughness in the sea. During this period of June/July the sea is usually very rough and there’s no other option because fishing is the only source of our livelihood.

“This folks must go fishing. Some persons despite the rough sea still paddle their canoe tactically so that they can feed their families. While some try their luck by
