Is It Right To Start All Over Again From 100 Level After Wasting 5 Years? by Tweak2k: 8:57pm On Jul 12, 2019 |
Am in a depressed state and am so ashamed of myself. Currently schooling in a federal university studying computer sci. Seriously I feel really bad to have wasted 5 years without achieving nothing or a degree. Even spill over still wouldn't do no good cause I don't want a 3rd class degree or every worst. Can't take the risk again.[ insult is free i deserve it] instead of graduating with a shitty degree am thinking of starting all over again from 100lvl to study computer science or anything related in a federal university. 4 years Max Right now i feel like an abomination and a disgrace to my family. Have tried visiting the HOD's in my school unfortunately, I was informed students from the same school can't switch to same school [Different department] i dont know why i think it's best known to them. Mind you am in my mid 20s with no achievement or any money making skills. I have interest in mastering programming or becoming a tech savvy guy or a security expert but i can't. aside the coding aspect physiologically am not balance. Secondly, am limited.. Am very ambitious i need help and opportunities. Am tried of fighting alone/ holding back its eating me up silently... I only smile or engage myself in a social gathering to cover up my pain. Even if am to start all over again I'll prefer a university that offer a 4 years course I don't know which Federal university one can study comp sci within 4 years. Please I need advice and help The truth is school is frustrating and tiring.. I need a degree my battle can't be in vain. I know someone would have pass through my line of sorrow or even worst. Your suggestions, opportunities and help will revive me back... Regards, 26 Likes 2 Shares |

Much better as long as you go in with full dedication. Your experience should help. Some would discourage you but I can tell you that 5 years is really nothing in the grand scheme of things. 74 Likes 4 Shares |

Find yourself a money making skill.....whether first class or third class Nigeria is not exactly a degree friendly place. Find yourself a good money making skill that aligns with your interests and be happy with your life. 138 Likes 9 Shares |

Tweak2k I can tell that you had a very bad foundation educationally, pre-university and it has shown in coming to the fore now. I can tell you struggled with your core subjects , and even tho’ you have the desire to do I.T, you don’t have a solid background in science subjects. You missed it the moment you went for “special center” instead of addressing your deficiencies before entering the university. (Please correct me if any of my submissions are wrong) I however feel there is a way out . Go for a “less demanding “ course that’s not necessarily science related, start well( sound 100 l results) and continue with zeal until your final year. When you’re out of uni, pick an area of I.t you’re interested in, and that matches your areas of strength, look for good computer schools and start learning at your own pace. This way, you’re not burdened with the extraneous courses you would’ve done in the university, for which you really were not prepared for .BUT , from here on , it has to be certifications , certifications , certifications . A number of excellent programmers didn’t study computer science in school, though most were already Science inclined On the flip side , a university degree doesn’t buy you success in today’s world. A combination of hard work , being smart and highly opportunistic does. As one of the posters above suggested, you can go learn a technical skill of your choice and continue to hone it, till it becomes marketable. Now isn’t the time for self pity and self loathing , if things aren’t working out for you, go and work things out. Good thing you’re still in your 20’s . 114 Likes 9 Shares |

Who will foot the bill? U are in your mid 20. How sure are u that if u start again, u will graduate before 30 and go for service? Nigerian higher institutions are unstable. 4 yrs may end up 5. So i will advice u finish this no matter how bad it is. Go for youth service( u might need it tomorrow), look for things to do and make money.when u have a steady flow of income, u can now go back to school. By then U are more focused and relaxed. As long as u are making money, u will be forgiven. We all make mistakes so no need to scold you. Good luck. 104 Likes 10 Shares |

Tweak2k: start again. be serious this time. And while at it, enrol in an institution where you'll learn how to code. Take it one step at a time. Uniport is 4 years 3 Likes 2 Shares |

Tweak2k: I'm kinda like in the same shit you're in now. 5 years wasted. Also in in my mid twenties. I believe I failed because I was too scared(I know it sounds silly though but it's true) so I wrote jamb again which I passed, and I'll be writing Post Utme next month. I also applied for a different course. I honestly do not know where the money will come from to train myself in school but I'm not going to be afraid again this time. At least I owe that to my parents for failing them the first time. I also do not have any good skills but I can type really fast and I just recently got some little graphic design skills. Have not started getting jobs though but I believe they'd come. I have also saved some.money to use to.get a laptop by next month when the monthly contribution I'm a part of pays me. We should link up though. I'm Dave 67 Likes 4 Shares |

Op, if you're sure you'll find success, fulfillment and happiness about what you are about to do now then go ahead with it. Tell yourself the truth. It's gonna be hard, but it's better late than never. All the best thou. 12 Likes 1 Share |

I graduated with a degree in Comp sci from Uniport in 2016, 4 years on the dot regardless 2 ASUU strikes. It's a very nice course but if you consider delving back in, make sure you're good in Maths/Further Maths, logic and statistics...a 2:1 or a good degree hinges mostly on them. On the other hand, you can still pocket whatever degree you earn now and go develop yourself fully in whatever niche of computer science you want to specialise in. In this profession, you need know-how but a good degree will get you opportunities. 17 Likes 1 Share |

Tweak2k:My man, a bird in hand is better than 9 in forest, since you are almost done with the first degree try and grab the certificate irrespective of the grade. With third class you can apply for a one year PGD after which you can do your master's degree to solidify your certification, or better still, you can go for a second degree after the first degree. Don't waste the certificate you struggled for 5 years because of third class which can take you to high places. Besides, some that graduated with first class haven't gotten good paying jobs, try and acquire some skills, develop your entrepreneaurial skill and the sky will be your limit. 60 Likes 5 Shares |

I can't relate per se. But I'll advice you start over and forget about the carryover you have, they could take a year or 2 to clear up, and you could've gone far in a new program by then. What do I know by the way, I'm just an undergraduate in my 2nd year. Goodluck. 2 Likes |

Tweak2k:if you still have interest in education, clear up all what distracted you from achieving your aims in the first program. Check yourself very well is it that you don't really like studying computer science? If no take another form try UNILORIN and UNN as someone said. If yes, change course. Best of luck 2 Likes |

Because of the grades you want to start over not because you failed to learn the necessary tools you needed to succeed? You confuse your distinction with success and it's a bigger problem. Why start all over when you can use that money to acquire core skills in your field necessary to succeed? It is computer science we are talking here for that matter. Do you want to succeed or you just want a good grade and in courses like computer science is it really good grades that gets one the job or the skills one has? Smh. 32 Likes 2 Shares |

There is a saying, it is not how far but how well. Years ago got admission into a university while I was about 16years, I was very stupid then because I thought life was all about enjoyment so I wasn't focused in school. I eventually joined bad gang and later in my second year I fail very well as was asked to repeat that year. I couldn't stand the shame so I left the school and started roaming the street as a dropout. My parents were upset and I left Nigeria to Ghana to go and hustle just like that. Years passed by without my knowledge and before I knew I had wasted away about 5 years and I was now in my 20s. I regretted everything because I saw better suffer so I put myself together again, gathered some money and ran back home as a prodigal son to plead with my parents. Most of my friends had already graduated and some had even married and working. My parents assisted me to get admission in a private university to start all over again. I cut off the shame and mockery, dedicated myself for good 5 years again to study Law, now it's all history. Many who graduated years before me still see me now and at the end who they see now is a lawyer though am not practicing for now because am out of the country but I can always come back, just it off and run for any political position if I choose to. Never give up bro. It's how well but not how fast. 39 Likes 4 Shares |
