Buy Cheap Durable Battery For Your Inverter & Solar System – By Wavelength by WavelengthIPS: 2:29pm On Jul 24, 2019
The battery is one of the most critical part of a solar or inverter system. Most of the batteries that are durable are not cheap. On the other hand, those batteries you can get for very cheap are not durable and may end up being a miserable investment or waste of money for you at the end of the day.
For inverter and solar system batteries, durability and quality is often a function of cost, as they say “Better soup, naa better money kill am” - meaning that the quality you will end up getting for a battery will be determined by your budget. But does this mean you cannot get a very good deal when you need a battery?
With the amount of experience and exposure we have with projects and the numerous testing we have done with differnet products, we believe you can get very good value for your money. You can buy batteries that can last very long, and will not cost you an exorbitant amount of money.
But first, let’s give you some key points you need to know before you choose or buy a battery.

BEFORE YOU CHOOSE A BATTERY
Make sure you get an accurate assessment of overall power requirement you need to cover. Add up all the power usage for all electronic appliances and other gadgets that can be affected by a power cut or outage. This is essential. Also know the type of battery and their purpose.
SPECIFIC PURPOSE – There are different types of batteries. Each one of them has their own strength and weakness.
Wet-Cell Battery – They are cheaper and are very rugged. They have life span of 4 to 5 years. But they are acidic and can’t be used indoors; they can be explosive when not handled with care. They need special maintenance - requires oxidizing topping every 6 months, which can lead to high maintenance cost.
Dry-Cell Battery also known as Deep Cycle Batteries – They are more expensive that wet cells, and may not be as rugged as wet cells. But you can install them inside your house. They are not acidic or explosive, so if you are health conscious, they will work best for you. They do not require maintenance every 6 months, so maintenance cost is very low.
Lithium-ION – The major limitation for this type of battery is that, they are very expensive – their cost range can go up to millions of naira. But you will get value for your money. They are more durable, they can last up to 10 years. They have a higher power capacity than Wet-cell or Dry-cell batteries. Even when the battery capacity gets low because of too much usage and too little charging, you can easily re-boost the battery power by charging well for a while.
The truth is Lithium-Ion batteries are quite expensive, not everyone has millions of naira to spend on batteries to power their solar-inverter systems.
But generally, our advice to you is to ensure you know where and how your battery will be used. Is it for your home, where you need something that will be indoors, or for your business eg. a farm or a manufacturing centre where you can use rugged batteries that would be outdoors?
You also need to be mindful of the supplier. There are lots of substandard and fake products out there. We recommend dealing with a company that will give you at least two (2) years warranty.
Also make sure you check out the volt-ampere (VA) rating of the inverter needed. And ensure your battery of choice can work with it (Not all batteries can work with every inverter).
You also need to be careful about the size of the battery. Ensure the battery will fit into the rack size and space you have planned out.
Also NOTE the specified life span - the average Wet-Cell or Dry-Cell (Deep Cycle) battery should have a life span of at least 4 years. Some other things you should note are if the battery has sufficient back up time, and if the depth of discharge (DOD) is ok.
Getting a good battery can either give you joy for the next few years, or make your Inverter/Solar investment a bad memory.
