Correspondents' chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Kwara state has inaugurated its new executive council with Alhaji Abiola Azeez of the Tribune newspapers emerging as chairman.

The new chairman of the Correspondents' chapel, who was the immediate past Secretary of the chapel, emerged unopposed like four other executive members for a three-year tenure.

Other executive members inaugurated are Mr. Kehinde Akinpelu of the Daily Times as the vice chairman, Alhaja Romoke W. Ahmad of the Trust newspapers as the Treasurer, Mr. Kayode Abdulazeez of the Nigerian Pilot newspapers as the secretary and Miss Mosunmola Ayobami of the Western Post as the assistant secretary.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Credential Committee, that midwifed the election, Mallam Saka Laaro, said that other vacant executive posts, including financial secretary and auditor would be filled through bye election at a later date.

The chairman of the Credential Committee also said that the new excos emerged unopposed through a transparent process in accordance with constitution of the union.

Speaking during the inauguration, the state chairman of the NUJ, Mallam Umar Abdulwahab, charged the new executive to be alive to their responsibilities and uphold the constitution of the union which they have sworn to.

He said the Correspondents' chapel is very critical to the stability of the council and urged the new executives to be good ambassadors of the union.

The chairman also charged members to always be of good conduct and uphold ethics of the journalism profession.
In his acceptance speech, the new chairman of the Correspondents' Chapel of the NUJ in Kwara state, Alhaji Abiola Azeez, said that the new executive council would work assiduously to improve relationship with various segments of the public for benefit of members and enhance unity among its members.

Alhaji Azeez also said that the new executive council would encourage career development among members and promote professionalism.

He said that he was ready to work with all stakeholders in the state to promote good governance and development.
