Listing your skills on your CV is no longer enough, you need to show examples when you write about your work experiences and achievements. Show, do not tell.

If a job advert says the company is on the lookout for someone with 5 years of work experience in managing teams, you honestly cannot write on your CV that you have 5 years of work experience in managing teams, the Applicant Tracking System (ATS) and the recruiter might cancel you out.

However, if you state as follows; “In my capacity as head of operations at Ecobank for the last three years, I have done the following”:

*Allocated time for specific tasks and have recorded a 35 per cent increased success with my team members in achieving set goals

*Displayed Assertiveness which helped me and my team to refuse needless demands thereby increasing our productivity and prevented us from taking on more than we could handle at a time

*Achieved completion of more tasks due to group effort made towards managing time better through avoiding excessive small talk among team members.

Notice that all these factors are also directly connected to team management? That is how you show your skills, not just listing them.
