Gombe State Governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yayaha has stated that there must be improvement in electricity power supply for the state to develop and catch up with the rest of the country. The governor disclosed this on Tuesday in his address at inauguration of nine-member Taskforce on improvement of power supply in the state. Governor Inuwa Yayaha said infrastructural development is the key driver of achieving sustainable growth, provision of social amenities and poverty reduction. His words: ”As we are all aware, provision of social amenities depends heavily upon availability and efficiency of Infrastructure. No doubt Infrastructural development will be the key driver in the dream for sustainable growth. Poverty continues unabated just as unemployment rises among young people. Regrettably, electricity power supply, which is the key to stimulating micro economic activity has been erratic in some places and totally absent in some parts of the State. This unfortunate situation has continued to hamper growth of small and medium sized businesses and enterprises in spite of the obvious entrepreneurial ability and capabilities of our people. ”Power remains the main key in our efforts to reposition our State on the path of sustainable industrialization. It is our firm belief that restructuring and energizing the Power sector in the State would contribute immensely to the overall development of Gombe State.” The Taskforce will address the problems that have continued to hamper steady power supply in Gombe State by relating with key stakeholders including Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDCO),Plc and Transmission Company of Nigeria(TCN). Members of the committee are Engineer Abdullahi Gwarzo (Chairman), Felix Gambo Mukollo, Kayinu Saraki Ambore, Engr. Saeed Maigari, Engineer Modi Babuje Gwandum, Engr. Bello Babayo Bello, Adamu Usman Dukku, Engineer Ahmed Garba Pindiga and Barr. Mohammed Ismail (Secretary/Legal Adviser).
