Abuja – The Department of State Services (DSS) has called on Nigerians to disregard threat of revolution by Mr Omoyele Sowore.

He also confirmed that Sowore, who was to led a group known as RevolutionNow on a protest slated for Aug. 5 was in the service’s custody.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of DSS, Mr Peter Afunanya made the call while addressing newsmen on Saturday in Abuja.

He said the arrest of Sowore was for threatening public safety, peaceful co-existence and social harmony in the country.

According to him, the service is charged with the responsibility of managing, curtailing, containing and eliminating threats against national security.

“These threats include threats of sabotage, threats of subversion, threat of terrorism and of course, ethnic agitations, separatist agitations, economic sabotage and others.

“If we are operating as a responsible security organisation and someone is calling for revolution in Nigeria, we must understand the meaning of revolution.

“Primarily, it means a revolt, it means insurrection, it means insurgency, it means forceful takeover of government and we are operating democratic system in Nigeria.

“Nigeria is not a banana republic and cannot suddenly be made one. So, the DSS will not just seat by and watch individuals or groups wanting to rise and threaten the peace and unity of the country,” he said.

He said that there was apprehension and anxiety among citizens as to what would happen next because of the threat.

“We want to use this opportunity to assure law abiding Nigerians and the world in general that come Aug. 5 Nigeria will remain peaceful and there will be no revolution.

“We want to also reiterate that the plot by some self seeking individuals and group to cause a breakdown of law and order, cause disaffection, disrupt social and economic services will not be tolerated,” he said.

Afunanya said government had been elected democratically, adding that there would not be any forceful takeover by any individual or group.

The PRO said the DSS would work with other stakeholders to ensure that peace was maintained in the country.

He said that the service would do all it could within the law to discharge its responsibility to ensure peace and unity in Nigeria at all times. (NAN)

The tool used by the opressor is in ensuring that the oppressed remains perpetually in that condition.
Is it now a crime to demand a better standard of living from the government?
The other question is, is the current situation in the country enough to warrant any form of protest?
Right now the resources of this country is being deplored to shut down Sowore and his protesters. So i ask: is Sowore the biggest problem we are facing as citizens? Is the threat of Sowore greater than those of Fulani herdsmen currently on a killing spree?
Will arresting Sowore put an end to the extreme poverty and unemployment we currently languish under? Is the demand for a stable power supply now a crime in Nigeria's laws?
If the government is doing excellently well like it claimed; will anybody even consider protesting?
These people we run around, whom we call leaders, do they really care if we exist or not? The resources they currently brandish as their personal belonging, did they earn them thru hard work or thru looting.
Sowore is only calling on us to THINK.

A government of zombies by zombies and for zombies . Anybody with rational thoughts is an enemy of this government. The relationship between government and the citizens is that of master - slaves. Any attempt by the citizens to demand for a better standard of living is a crime.
2face planned it back then, he was threatened and forced to issue a statement to cancel it.
if nigeria is a civilised country; arresting Sowore is like a person shooting his own leg.
DSS go and build more prisons cos the ones u have will not be enough when we shall all come out tomorrow. This revolution is more than Sowore . it is about our future, our life and the country we call our own

Eliminating threat against national security and yet you have not eliminated banditry and terrorism that have cost thousands of lives and uncountable resources.

All of you in that organization are very stupid.

I will not endorse the Revolution Now crusade.
Because I did the Our Mumu Don Do and also the Enough Is Enough and it yielded nothing other than monetary gain to it's conveners.

What if I do then they free Sowore and he does a Tuface on all those who blindly queued behind him.
Charly Boy's sellout made me realize that this is not my Nigeria.

There shall be no revolution at least not tomorrow and not led by a sellout mole.

Nigerians are fvcking coward.. And because of that we shall always be oppressed. Take a clue from Hong Kong.. That right there is how a protest and revolution should be done.

Tomorrow I bet not more than 1 thousand people will show up for the so called revolution protests.

Bunch of cowards. It not a revolution if you are not willing to die for what you believe in.
