Had Ugwuanyi spent half of what he puts into propaganda videos and irrelevant solidarity events, Enugu would have been sincerely doing maintenance on infrastructure. Rather he goes about self worshipping and merrying on the hard work of his predecessors.

All the elected Chairmen are under his pocket, a financial mafia that has refused grassroots development. Who awards a road contract for 600m these days? Yes that is exactly what he does, award contracts to tar visible portions of rural roads and chant Enugu is in under hands of God. I think it is safe to save that under his regime Enugu has been on reverse auto pilot. Suffering and smiling civil servants just cuz he squeezes from the council funds to pay their salaries.

No known Housing Projects, no new roads, no innovation, the SME center that was supposed to empower youths na another joke.

Think I'm gonna make an fb post about it and tag his known associates.

Ugwuanyi is the chief security of the state & must take blame of what ever happens in Enugu state just like buhari is responsible for insecurity and others in Nigeria.
Before sending our youths to the forest in the name of forest guard he should first ban open grazing.
First thing first he should stop dancing to the tone of Fulani but do every thing possible to secure life's and property of our people in the state, I repeat ban open grazing.

Enugu state has accommodated herdsmen for a long time even the op said so.
So
All these attacks against ugwuanyi won't hold.
He is the best governor to have governed Enugu state. He is God sent.
He has marketed the state with lots of development. His predecessor can't equal his achievement.
Enugu remains in God's hands.
All these priest should face their calling and leave him alone.

Though I didn't read the Reverend Father's point of criticism, but Mr op, you just made your points so sentimental and as such, I guess you are an apologist of denomination. But let me clear some points for you anyway: the Governor collects a certain amount of money that runs in hundreds of millions, if not billion as security vote. What stops him from establishing an active community security system that's well reformed? Secondly, the major reason for insecurity in any place is unemployment, to what extent has the Governor made efforts towards creating opportunities for employment or better still establish an empowerment scheme that is devoid of connection? There's no gain defending what is not just, the Governor should just sit up in performance.

Insecurity in Enugu State, Crowd Renting and The Conspiracy of Silence

By Fr. Ike Odigbo

On thursday 1st August 2019 Fr. Paul Offu was murdered in Awgu area of Enugu State, an event which sparked off series of events of unprecedented proportion. Fellow priests took to the streets in solidarity to protest the high level of insecurity of lives and properties in Enugu State. Earlier in March Fr. Clement Ugwu was murdered in his parish in Ezeagu. Another priest Fr. Paulinus Ilo was ferociously attacked by gunment. He is still in hospital.

It is not just about priests. Scores of men and women are being daily hunted and killed. We all get updates on social media from victims and eyewitnesses of the deplorable condition of security in Enugu. Just a day after Fr. Paul was killed news went round of the kidnap of the traditional ruler of Umuobom community in Agbogugu, the same axis where the priest was killed.

On August 8 2019, news and pictures floorded the internet of Traditional Rulers in Enugu giving a resounding vote of confidence on Enugu State Governor Mr Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. It is only one week since Fr. Paul Offu was killed and hasnt yet been laid to rest when the so-called royal fathers are displaying this show of shame. It is a conspiracy of silence by those who should rise to speak for their people.

Truth is that anybody who pretends that there is peace and security in Enugu is telling a huge lie. People are living on edge. Of the entire five States of the South East, Enugu is now the most insecure. No day passes without news of people being killed, robbed, kidnapped, hunted and raped. The governor knows this. The traditional rulers know this. They are merely on a shoddy game of face-saving. They are living in denial.

The action of these traditional rulers is a correct reflection of the shape of Nigerian politics. Rather than rise up to solve social problem, politicians spend vast amount of human and finacial resources to cover it up. They fail in their duty. Then they buy-out those who would speak out and then the problem incubates and grows to out of proportion. It is the same attitude in education, health, roads and now security. But because security is very sensitive, it is the most inflamable of all, because it is about life and death.

It is a shame that Governor Ugwuanyi prefers image laundering than rising to his duty. He has this irritating habit of renting crowds to sing his praise. Of course he knows, that everybody knows, that it is quite easy to assemble all the royal fathers in a giffy. Its very simple. Just dole out cash and get then to violate their oaths and compromise their integrity, men who should be honest and upright. But that has been his tactics in the last four years: with teachers, civil servants, pensioners. Traditional rulers are in the payroll of government, so naturally they lose their independence. Hunger and abuse have made our people, usually honourable, to lose their shame. He who pays the piper they say dicttaes the tune.

These traditional rulers are also under strict instructions by the governor not to 'disturb' the peace of fulani herdsmen who live in the bushes of Enugu State. They are to restrain their people from any possible confrontation with the fulani. Whoever fails to live up to this will be deposed. In other words, the traditional rulers are indirectly selling out their own people while pretending to defend them. News is everywhere of their dealings with fulani men. But thats a story for another day. Its the character of Nigerian politicians, the traditional rulers and town union executives now also have the virus.

Anyone who thinks what am saying here, that traditional rulers are under firm control of the governor, is fictitious should recall what happened in Nenwe months back. Nenwe youths mustered the courage to drive away fulani people and their cattle. The video was trending online. The next day, the traditional ruler of Nenwe in a press briefing at which the governor himself and representatives of the fulani cattle rearers were present, publicly denounced the action of Nenwe Youths. Governor himself spoke.

The impression being created is that everything is ok. But nothihg is farther from the truth. Had it been that the Nenwe example was not denounced and criminalized, that is, the eviction of troublesome fulani, it would have been a worthy template for other communities. But here we are, back to square one. But its good for the governor to know that indeed things are not ok. People of Enugu State and those who live and do business within it are in danger and the evidence is there for anyone to see.

It is arguable that next to Benue, Enugu has borne more of the brunt of fulani herdsmen attack. While all the states that are facing this insecurity problem are adopting a combative approach, Enugu is living in denial. Anti open-grazing law should have been passed. Same with anti-kidnapping law. Regular denunciation of herdsmen antics in strong terms and outright rejection of Ruga or related fulani gimmicks should be coming from the governor. He should copy Dave Umahi or Yesom Wike. He should speak out because it weakens the enemy and makes his own citizens strong and confident. Now, we are a laughing stock.

Gossip is making the round that the governor is intentionally towing the line of political correctness due to personal reasons. He wants to continue to the senate after his governorship, to complete his political round-trip. He doesn't want the harrasment of EFCC when he leaves office. His personal ambitions is not my problem, but the insecurity in Enugu. The way he is going, with rising insecurity in the land, I doubt if he will complete this second term.

This writeup is not a general assesment of the governor. It is strictly on security. The people want to be safe. Or at least they want to see the governor, the chief security officer, doing something tangible. Crowd renting does not solve problem. It worsens it by creating false hope. Its like dressing and bandaging an infected wound. What you get is puss and gangerine. When there is no security there is no peace and there is no rest. We as priests are on the side of the people and we live up to our duty when we remind the governor to do his job. But if the people cant get peace, why should the governor expect to have it?

Copied from WhatsApp.. This is exactly what I have been say about this inept nonentity called Ugwuanyi.. Completely useless.

OEPHIUS:
What is the offense of His Excellency Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi? I don’t want to believe that the recent attacks on his person are being sponsored by politicians who are not happy that he believes in ‘live and let live.’
Those who don’t believe in an all inclusive government. A style that has made Enugu politicians see one another as brothers rather than enemies in the name of politics.
Some say he is not a politician but his style has proved bookmakers wrong. His re-election was a clean sweep even against the ruling party at the center. Is it not a commendable political feat?
Reading a piece attributed to one Rev. Fr. Ike Odigbo one would not help but feel an undertone of mischief.

I am a Catholic, and I have so much respect for Catholic Priests, but it’s either some of them don’t understand the ‘politics’ involved in the recent attacks and have unconsciously been dragged into the fray or have allowed themselves to be caught in the Web of a political battle. I don’t want to say that my respected priests are being used even without their knowing it.
The priest titled his write-up ‘Insecurity in Enugu…’ and from the first line heaped all attacks and blames on the governor.
There was no mention of the police, army or other security agencies whom it is their immediate responsibility to provide security.
Also, Security falls within the Exclusive List and as such an exclusive of the Federal government.. Appointments and postings of Commissioner’s of Police and other security Chiefs are strictly under the federal government. Thus, the call for community and State police in some quarters so that the states can take responsibility for their security.
Yes, we agree that the governor is the Chief Security officer of the state but the police, Army and other security agencies are not under his control.
I don’t think he is expected to carry guns and go into the bushes to protect his people.
Rather his duty is to provide logistics and other incentives to make the security agents discharge their duties effectively. This he has been doing to the best of my knowledge.
We all remember what happened before the Nimbo herdsmen attack. There was a security report of an impending danger. The governor summoned an emergency meeting and was re-assured by the CP and other security heads, yet they failed. Would you blame the governor for this? All that followed is now history and those who failed in their duties were reprimanded.
Let us take the issue of kidnap of a priest in Ezzeagu. Few years back kidnapping went to an all time high in the South-East to the extent that an army Special Squad was deployed to Abia State where the notorious Osisi-Kankwu was gunned down.

The business of kidnap also boomed in Anambra but the intensified efforts of security agents helped stem the massive tide.
In Enugu the brother of late Minister for Information Dora Akunyili was kidnapped, there was another memorable kidnap of a woman whose son is a successful business man. She was killed and buried in a forest in Nkwerre Ezukalla in Anambra State.
The list of kidnap in Enugu and of-course the rest of the South East was endless. It was like an epidemic that ravaged the South East, Catholic Priests were also victims, yet nobody blamed the governor then Sullivan Chime and his colleagues for the rise in kidnapping.
The Ezzeagu priest was kidnapped from the parsonage and when the alarm was raised the villagers went in search of the priest. Unfortunately his body was found.
Yes, the Nenwe episode. The report was that the villagers drove away herdsmen from their community. If you have a friend from Nenwe, or you want to find out things for yourself, visit the community and I can comfortably say that herdsmen are still there.
Herdsmen are in Nenwe and have been accommodated by the community. What happened was that the people woke up that morning and saw a staggering number of cows passing through the community.
Afraid that they were about to settle asked them to move on. That was the video that went viral. Rev. Fr. Odigbo please go and find out for yourself if herdsmen are still in Nenwe.

In most of our communities the Fulani herdsmen have been accommodated for decades while the traditional rulers reap the dividends and royalties, yet nobody wants to recognize this.
The duty of securing our communities starts from each of us as individuals. It continues with our village heads, traditional rulers, Town Union leadership, councillors and Local Government chairmen, it is not for our governor alone.
Even the police who it is their primary responsibility cannot work without information because they are not ubiquitous neither are they spirits.
The priest in his write-up almost exposed himself when he wrote…”The way he is going, with rising insecurity in the land, I doubt if he will complete this second term…”
Haba Fr. are you not beating someone else’s drums?
I like critics, but sir your write-up is far from a critique. You never saw anything good the governor has done.
You couldn’t even give him the credit of being the first in the South East to setup forest guards as agreed by the South-East Governors.

The police will always tell you that crime can never be eliminated but can only be curtailed. So blaming a peaceful governor for any crime in Enugu is totally wrong as nobody can blame you for the sins of the congregation of the Church you are managing.
In case you have not heard of this, a policeman was shot recently between 7th or 8th August along Nike Lake Road, Enugu.
The Keke reportedly slowed down at the check-point and shot at the police man. Would you also blame the governor here?
The police at Abakpa have been very notorious in toll collection to the extent that all keke riders pay a certain amount on daily basis.
People have differences. People quarrel, they fight, these could be motives for murder. We have heard of son stabbing mother to death in the same house.
I am not holding forth for the governor, I will criticize him if the need arises but in the present situation we all must tread with caution and individually contribute in our little ways to help in securing the state.
I know that some politicians are not happy that Ugwuanyi brought back former governor, Chimaroke Nnamani into political reckoning once again but the church must not allow itself to be used in a revenge mission.
The fake videos have continued to fly on the social media all in attempt to malign the governor. It’s however worrisome that the Catholic Church is being used to settle political scores.
The governor, however, is a Catholic, same with his deputy, Speaker and even the Chief Judge of the State. So, whose script is on play?

Chuks Ferdinand Oko writes from Aninri

http://www.everydaynewsngr.com/crime/what-is-governor-ugwuanyis-offense-by-chuks-oko/

he allocated land for RUGA. and the area he allocated is now kidnapping den for fulani killers.
