otherway:

For the Guys

Most of the Yorubas do odd jobs that pay very well if converted to naira.(Cleaning, care, security...) while some do high end white collar jobs too.

Most Igbos do runs (If you know you know) and only few do regular odd jobs.

I hardly come across hausas.

For the ladies

For the Yorubas most do hair dressers, care , cleaning and a number of them in the nursing profession and some use what they have to get what they want.

For the Igbos same as above.

I hardly come across Hausa girls.. seems Hausa people hardly travel to hustle.
Igbos do all those too. What you know dey yarn If you don't have work permit or citizenship you have to work under the table. If you get hired and the company sponsors you they will get you a work permit. Or if you can invest half a million dollars. Maybe the company is owned by Nigerians they will hire you, like one cosmetic company. But just get job without work permit, mba!

Please I want to ask a question.

What do Nigerians who left the country and travelled abroad do (what's their sources of income), because some left Nigeria with no hope of getting a job abroad.

And judging by the desperation of the youth about getting out of this country I think they have the believe that once they leave this country the odds are in their favour. I really want to know what they do
it depends on ur contact, if you have free accomodation for 3 to 6 months like I help people that I know , and put them on right ways, you will get good job , not factory job, forklift , American dont care about ur certificate , but ur ability to perform is what they need. If you know it do it and do it well.

Some go to school to get a good job and a good life,
While others constitute nuisance and go into a life of fraud.

It depends on the individual.

We wonder how some people will have such good opportunity and be comfortable doing crime.

Some have head but don't have caps,
Some have caps but no heads.

We will get there too someday.
Go where someday? You must suffer and die in this country, so u wan run?

All you have to do is look at how many of them are in foreign jails and how many are being deported daily, then the answer to your question is as clear as day

It really depends. I can only speak for the US...you will find a lot of Nigerians in different fields of endeavor such as in Law, Medicine, Engineering, Academia, Civil Service-both Federal, State & City, Health Care, IT, Cab Driving, Entrepreneurs, etc. Infact, if you can think of any segment of the labor market in the US, you MUST find a Nigerian in that arena [Nigerians are ubiquitous in the American labor market]. I hope this helps.

Contrary to the overused stereotype bandied by ignorant people back home that all Nigerians based abroad do is menial jobs, IT'S NOT ALL NIGERIANS THAT ENGAGE IN MENIAL JOBS ABROAD. At least I can speak for the Nigerian demography here in the USA where I stay... we have LOTS of Nigerian doctors, pharmacists, Lawyers, Engineers, IT guru's etc doing very well in their respective professions here(we are abundantly represented at and in all levels of American labor) . While it is true that some Nigerians especially when they first come abroad engage in menial jobs to survive(and trust me the concept of dignity in labor is respected in developed countries like the USA, Canada, and some parts of Europe)where there's absolutely no shame in doing menial jobs, these Nigerians who start up with under the table low paying jobs due to paper issues, they still go on in few years to go to school and acquire degrees in good paying career fields(you can't take away ambition and goal from a Nigerian)... there's a reason why Nigerians are the most educated demography in America today. I've met Nigerian doctors, lawyers, business managers/owners etc today who were once security guards, cleaners, Cab drivers etc once. And for context, Most doctors in Nigeria don't even gross half the yearly income of a Cab driver in the USA!

The stupidity on this nairaland is epic sha. A poster asked what people in diaspora do and around 80% of the response seen is coming from jobless, lazy youths who probably haven't been in an aircraft before.

In saner climes you'll see people wait for those with experience to come and drop their input but no, every idiot here has to use this opportunity to exhibit his/her stupidity...must you comment??

Again, what's with the job shaming people who do legal menial jobs to make a living abroad? Shows how lazy and silly the lot of you are.

Let's exercise those dead brain cells of some of you. Calculate the average minimum wage in Europe of 10 euros (Where 1 euro is equivalent to 390 naira) per hour by 40 hours a week. How many jobs can give you such salary in a week in Naija?

I know all these silly yapping na because una never get the opportunity. If some of the idiots dancing upandan on this thread reach the abroad, tori go change.

When them call una lazy youths una go begin para but that's what you all are; lazy Nigerian youths.

If I've learnt nothing in this my sojourn abroad, it's the fact that only a lazy man can be found wanting here.

Papers! makes a difference

Illegal - odd jobs or cash paying jobs (selling ice cream, etc.), runs, till you get paper
Legal - odd or part time jobs to get started even runs too. You can go the experience route and work and save or find opp to do your own business. or you can go the school route and do what is necessary to get your degree or certification, etc. then work towards joining the pro workforce.

It depends on you, the country, your determination, support network helps if available...chips falling right for you!

I have no stats to back this up, but for every Nigerian in Jail I want to believe there are 10000+ (to that 1) not in jail in that country.
Amount of Nigerian migrants is way way way larger than Nigerians in jail.

This suppose to be a very engaging and reasonable thread but from the replies I have seen in over 3 Pages I have to conclude two things :

Nairaland is dead and not what it used to be.

Or

Nigerian youths are becoming dumber and loosing intellect.
