A committee set up in Zamfara to tackle insecurity is considering empowering repented Bandits.

Former Inspector General of police, Muhammad Dahiru Abubakar, who is the Chairman of the committee made this known during an interview with Journalist, after he pay a courtesy visit to the Sultan of Sokoto, on Tuesday August 20, 2019, in Sokoto state.

According to him, about 500 Kidnapped persons have been rescued without ransome in the state.

The committee is looking into lasting solution to armed banditry and cattle restling , therefore, considering empowering repented bandits.

Mohammed added that the committee have been able to achieve its goal.

” it is just two months since the inauguration of this committee but we were able to achieve the desired goal”: he said.

According to him they were in the Sultan’s palace to receive blessing from him.

He said: ” Sultan is a supreme leader and a retired military officer with vast experience on security. He gave workable advise and possible recommendations to the committee.

“Sultan promised to use the platform of northern traditional rulers to rally support for the fight against armed banditry and other crimes in the region”.

Muhammad noted that they have so far visited 16 out of the 18 emirates of Zamfara State and that the corporation was enormous.

He explained further that the committee had met interesting groups, such as, Fulani herdsmen and community leaders that helped in the released of the 500 kidnapped persons.

In other to discourage banditry and other crimes in the region, he said the committee, will recommend empowering repented banditary in their report to the Government.
