What You Might Not Have Known About The Word Of Faith Movement by Nobody: 8:44am On Aug 31, 2019 |
What you might not have known about the Word of Faith Movement aka “Prosperity Preaching” or “Claim it, you have it” Pentecostal Churches Charles Poyen (a French mesmeristWhat you might not have known about the Word of Faith Movement aka “Prosperity Preaching” or “Claim it, you have it” Pentecostal Churches) trained Phineas Quimby, an American to become adept at administering hypnotism. Quimby later began claiming to heal people of sickness which doctors could not cure. He usually explained to his patients that disease was caused by false beliefs, and that the cure of their ailments was an explanation of this. Some of Quimby’s clients include Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of Christian Science. She is cited to have used Quimby as an inspiration for theology. Essek William Kenyon who was a Baptist pastor is suggested to have been the originator of “positive confession”, a tool that is very common among the Word of faith Pentecostal movement. E.W. Kenyon’s views and stands were heavily influenced by the New Thought Movement: a Movement developed in the United States of America in the 19th century. The foundation of this movement was considered to be based upon the unpublished writings of Phineas Quimby. You may wish to ask, how is the Word of faith Pentecostal movement linked to all these? The answer is simple. The arrowhead of the Word of Faith Movement was an American pastor named Kenneth Hagin. It was Kenneth Hagin who popularised this Movement about the middle of the second half of the 20th century. Kenneth Hagin was a student of E.W. Kenyon (many of the books written by Kenneth Hagin were based on the works of E.W. Kenyon, but for reasons best known to him, he didn’t acknowledge this in these books). While Kenneth Hagin is considered as the father of the Word of Faith Movement, it will be right to say that E.W. Kenyon is the grandfather, while Charles Poyen, Phinehas Quimby and the New Thought Movement are the progenitors. The Word of Faith Movement as can be seen from the foregoing is founded upon mysticism and hypnotism because the man (Kenneth Hagin) who popularised and propagated it had his tutelage under E.W. Kenyon, a Baptist pastor who was a disciple of Phineas Quimby (a well-known 19th century American spiritual teacher, magnetizer, mesmerist, hypnotist and mystic). These word of faith “churches” appears to the undiscerning as churches, in fact most of them are tongue speaking Pentecostal churches. But these are no churches. The attachment of the word “church” is nothing but a facade. Underneath these churches so called, are stinky, highly demonic syncretism that comprises hypnotism, mysticism, and witchcraft practises. Please watch the YouTube video below and decide if such a scene is of GOD. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SgByE0pX1M Having watched the video, can you now understand the origin of those mesmerisms, holy laughter, spiritual drunkenness etc? Signs that the church you attend is one of those word of faith churches i. They barely preach against sin. They hate to call sin by name. They prefer to use words such as bad habit, mistake, bad manners etc to describe sin. Sin as taught in the bible is much deeper than all these words. Sin according to 1 John 3:4 is “the transgression of the law”, that is sin is disobedience to GOD’s Word. It attracts both present and eternal consequences if one refuses to repent. The wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23): not the wages of bad manners or bad habits. ii. They scarcely preach or teach about holiness and righteousness as taught in the Bible. They prefer to deceive their members by telling them about positional righteousness. That is a righteousness that comes from just believing in CHRIST, but will never emphasis on experiential or practical righteousness, which is righteousness that comes through obedience to GOD’s words and commands, based on our saving faith. They fail or refuse to know that there cannot be positional righteousness without experiential or practical righteousness [Ephesians 2:1-6]. They hardly emphasise that “GOD has not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness” [1 Thessalonians 4:7]. Also read Matthew 5:20; John 8:31; Romans 2:13; Ephesians 2:8-10; Titus 2:11-15; Hebrews 12:14, 28-29; 1 Peter 1:15-16; 1 John 3:2-3; Rev 21:8 to learn what the bible says about this all important aspect of our Christian life. iii. Their pastors never frown at sinful lifestyles of their members, neither will they rebuke them, for others to learn. Hardly will they discipline their erring members, especially church leaders who have openly brought the name of the LORD and the gospel of JESUS CHRIST into ridicule. It usually takes ages for such church members to be brought to order. Paul the Apostle told Timothy in 1 Timothy 5:20 “them that sin rebuke before all, that others may learn.” Also read 1 Corinthians 5:1-13. iv. They teach that humans are little gods. This doctrine seeks to bring GOD to the level of humans, while elevating humans to the level of GOD. The bible teaches that GOD is One Who eternally exists in three Persons: the Father, the Son and the HOLY SPIRIT [1 John 5:7; 2 Corinthians 13:14]. GOD, the bible tells us in Genesis 1:27, created man in His image and after His likeness. He never made humans with the intention that we become little gods. Humans were created to fellowship with GOD and uniquely reflect His love, glory and holiness [Isaiah 43:21; Leviticus 11:44; 1 Peter 1:15-16]. v. They teach and rely more on personal revelation, rather than the inspired Word of GOD (the Bible). They do this in order to come up with and back up their absurd beliefs. The Bible emphatically teaches that the Word of GOD is our more sure word of prophecy [2 Peter 1:16-19]. This means that all visions or revelations must be compared with the consistency of GOD’s Word. To do otherwise leads to heresy. vi. They teach that the force of faith operate independently of GOD’s sovereign will. This statement seeks to elevate the force of faith above GOD and His will. The Bible never teaches this because it is abominable and sacrilegious. Placing the force of faith above GOD is nothing but idolatry. No amount of faith takes away GOD’s will. When David sinned by sleeping with Uriah’s wife, GOD told David that the child conceived through this adulterous act would die. The child died in fulfilment of GOD’s Word, David’s fasting and prayers notwithstanding [2 Samuel 12:14-18]. Since David’s case was in the Old Testament let us look at GOD’s consistency in the New Testament. We will look at the case of Paul the Apostle. A man immensely used by GOD to reach the gentile nations during the early church. A man who wrote most of the books in the New Testament. A man who was caught up into paradise and heard unspeakable words. This man of GOD had a thorn in the flesh. For this, he besought the LORD on three different occasions to take it away from him. But what was the LORD’s response? It is found in 2 Corinthians 12:9 “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.” Paul accepted GOD’s will with equanimity as we see in his next statement, “Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” Do we see again brethren what the bible says about the will of GOD and our own will? Note Brethren, we are not advocating for prayerlessness among believers. The bible teaches us to pray without ceasing and that the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. But as we pray fervently and exercise faith, let us always remember that GOD’s will and counsel will always stand. Conclusion The Word of Faith Movement whose churches most unfortunately have the largest numbers of congregants all over the globe is not of GOD. Since it is not of GOD, it is a poison to the body of CHRIST. Christianity has nosedived beyond recognition since their advent. They according 1 Peter 2:1, have brought in damnable heresies into the church, they deny the LORD JESUS CHRIST through their beliefs and practices. Their pastors because of their covetousness use feigned words to make merchandise of their members [2 Peter 2:3]. Lack of spiritual growth and absence of true spiritual life are quite noticeable among people who belong to this sect of Christianity. The reason for this cannot be divorced from the foundation of this movement, which is essentially satanic. The foundation is destroyed, nothing can be built upon it [Psalm 11:3]. A church without CHRIST as the Foundation cannot bring forth Spirit filled believers [1 Corinthians 3:11; Ephesians 2:18-22]. Adherents of this movement risk missing GOD’s Kingdom. The bible is explicit on the qualifications of entering the Kingdom of GOD. It is not by meat or drink like the word of faith movement teaches in their churches, but it is in righteousness, peace and joy in the HOLY GHOST [Romans 14:17]. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see GOD [Matthew 5:8]. Brethren, we have written this to make us know more about this movement whose churches are everywhere. Most of their churches are the fastest growing churches, many are trooping into them and are following their pernicious ways by reason of which the way of truth is evil spoken of [2 Peter 2:2]. The Word of Faith Movement is one of the end time tragedies that Scriptures forewarned us about. The LORD JESUS had forewarned believers to beware of false prophets who shall rise and shall deceive many including the elects [Matthew 25:5, 11, 24]. The time for CHRIST’S coming is too near for us to toy with our salvation and our subsequent entering into His Kingdom. Let me end this message by reminding us of the passage below: Romans 13:11-14 11And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. 12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. 13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. 14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear [Matthew 11:15]. GOD bless you. References Got Questions. (2019). Is the Word of Faith Movement Biblical.
