It is a common statement nowadays that religion is the cause of all the problems in the world. But is that true? In this article, we are going to explain how religion is not the problem and will show what exactly has always been the cause of everything.

The Merriam Webster’s dictionary defines religion as the belief in a god or in a group of god. It also defines it as “an organized system of beliefs, ceremonies, and rules used to worship a god or a group of gods. It further defines it as an interest, a belief, or an activity that is very important to a person or a group.”

According to some estimates, there are roughly 4,200 religions in the world. The major ones according to population include Christianity, Islam, New Age Spirituality, Buddhists and Hindus.

The common denomination among all these religions, according to Everystudent.com is that they are all working on the same problem. They are all working to make sure everyone becomes a better person since we all have our personal failings. Each religion acknowledges that every human is a sinner and we all have to do better.

In this article, I will be focusing on the Christian religion. Christians believe that there is a loving God who has created all humans to get close to him. He really wants that closeness to the extent that He sent his only begotten Son as a savior (John 3:16)

In order to get close to God, Jesus is needed to bridge the gap and for Jesus to bridge the gap, each human need to forfeit his or her sinful nature. The sinful nature includes involving in all kinds of terrible activities, immoral and amoral actions, wickedness and so on.

Now, if the point of Christianity is to get close to God, knowing that sin would prevent that, how can the Christianity religion be a problem?

Christianity has spread to corners of the world through selfless missionaries who are highly interested in bringing people close to God and consequently making the world a better place. They brought with them innovations, education, medical services and so much more benefits.

They weren’t perfect too; no one is. But they strove hard to be the kind of person God wants them to be.

Who or what then is the cause of the problems in the world. The is answer is simple:HUMANS.

Let’s go to Grammar. The word ‘religion’ can be compared to ‘money’, ‘guns’ and ‘computer’. They are all common nouns. They are also all tools used to achieve something.

Money is a tool used to purchase things for one purpose or the other. Guns are used to destroy or to protect. Computer is used for communication and to do a lot of exciting and wonderful stuffs. Religion is a tool used to make people better persons or get closer to God.

You will hear some people calling for an outright ban of religion. That is ridiculous. Religion is not the problem. The humans practicing the religion are the problem. The fact that some people who are religious or who take religion seriously do terrible things in the name or under the name of religion doesn’t mean that religion is the problem. The problem is the human.

Take money for example. The same money that can be used to buy wonderful things is the same tool that some use to get or other people killed. It is the same money that is used to buy drugs which are illegal. It is the same money that people kill themselves for just because they want to get it. You would be surprised what absolutely terrible things that people can do because of money.

That said, why can’t people talk about banning money? After all, humans do terrible things because of it. The fact is that it is just a tool. How it is used and who uses it- that is the problem.

What about guns? Sometimes I wonder what the very first person to create a him was drinking when he or she did it. Then I realized that even guns are important. They are used for hunting for food or for protection against wild animals. Look at the world today. The same guns are now used to hunt people and there are fears that guns now outnumber humans.

You can imagine the number of people that have been killed by guns since it was made. Is gun the problem? Is it not the humans who use the guns and how they use them that are the problem? Why can’t people call for the outright ban of guns anywhere? Why can’t they call for all guns to be burned or destroyed and not used at all?

How about the computer? Computer has made remarkable progress in making things easier and faster without much stress. It has connected people in different continents and nations. Nowadays, most of the things humans do are done with computers.

Now, the same computers are now used for cyberbullying, fraud, scams and they are even used in making bombs. The same computers that make life easier and better are now being used to destroy lives and careers. A lot of money has been spent on security for computers but scammers and hackers keep making a ridicule of the security.

Why can’t we call for the banning of computers like people do for religion? The usefulness of the computer depends on the kind of person who uses it and how he or she uses it.

Obviously, we have now shown that humans are the problem of the world. They are the originators of the problems of the world. Each action and decision that humans take or make, has a positive or negative effect on the world and everything in it.

Remember: just like money, guns, and computers, religion is just a tool. Those who utilize it and how they utilize it is the problem.

That is why Christianity is in place. It makes everyone strive to be a better human. A better human being means love and love means a better word for everyone to live in.
