The federal government said it will soon commissioned the already completed 40 megawatts (MW) Kashimbilla hydropower plant, the Takum, Wukari transmission substations in Taraba state and other projects to boost national electricity grid.

The Minister of Power, Engr. Sale Mamman confirmed this at the weekend during an inspection tour to the plant along with the Minister of State, Mr Goddy Agba and other dignitaries. They also inspected the plant’s 330/132 kilovolt (kV) switchyard and the Takum 2×60 MVA, 132/33kV transmission substation. The Project Manager in the Ministry of Power, Engr Ali-Dapshima Abubakar who conducted them around the project sites said the Kashimbilla Hydropower was upgraded from 6MW to 40MW.

He said the dam and the hydropower components were completed since October 17, 2017; the evacuation project was at 90% level in June, 2019 and will be ready for power generation soon.

The dam will check flood threats from Lake Nyos located along the Cameroon line of volcanic activity while providing power. It will also provide water supply to about 400,000 people and boost irrigation for agriculture. At the Takum 2x60MVA, 132/33kV substation, Engr. Abubakar said the Wukari, Takun and Kashimbilla power projects were 100% completed and ready to energize.

Engr. Mamman expressed satisfaction on the projects and assured of addressing challenges to ensure they are energized. The Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Mr Usman Gur Mohammed said he was satisfied with the substation’s work. Briefing the ministers, he said when power is evacuated from the plant; it would serve the Northeast, North-Central and the Southeast.

It is more of an irrigation, flood control and a water project than power.

40mw chimoooooo grin

Restructure this country and let every region generate its own electricity and see if we won't have steady power. Power will bring investors. A state like Imo State alone is capable of generating 4000mw with its gas reserve. We know what to do but it must be business as usual.

Upon all the natural dams and water falls in the South, none of them is worth constructing an hydro power plant.

The process of restructuring, even if started today will yield the desire results in decades, not the next 2 or 3 years. The same with effort to increase power supply, it will take more than 10 years for Nigeria to achieve stable 24 hours electricity.

Seplat plc has begun the construction of ANOH gas processing plant capable of supplying 300mmscf of gas per day. Eastern region as a whole is replete with gas for industrialization while the northern region should use dams for hydroelectricity and irrigation for agriculture
A win-win situation for all.

We’ll generate 20,000mw of electricity in 4 years, says Buhari
Monday, February 2, 2015

The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Organisation (APCPCO) on Sunday said it would provide 20,000 megawatts (mw) of electricity in the first four years of governance at the center. The party noted that its presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, if elected will improve the power situation significantly.

The proposed 20,000mw of electricity in four years will surpass Nigeria’s consumption level of around 15,000mw as at today.

Not until we find way to swap to nuclear that electricity can be solved. Hydro, and other renewable systems are waste of resources in my opinion.

You’re right. The natural dams and waterfalls in the south lack the required vertical water load component and other criteria for effective dam construction. You will however notice that all the thermal electricity generation stations are in the south. Since you are a bigot you will not see logic or technical reasoning.
