The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has asked President Buhari to ban the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN), an umbrella association of herdsmen in the country.

The association also called on the president to “completely scrap” the suspended ‘Ruga’grazing scheme. CAN made the request at the Church leaders stakeholders’ summit, themed, ‘RUGA: The church’s response in the 21st century,’ which was held in Lagos on Saturday.

Samson Ayokunle, CAN president, was quoted as saying the association came up with the recommendations after setting up a committee to look into the Ruga grazing scheme and related issues. He accused MACBAN of supporting some herdsmen fingered in various attacks across the country.

“Anything that smacks of mutual suspicion should be avoided in the interest of national unity,” Ayokunle was quoted as saying. He said among the group’s recommendation are: “The federal government should immediately disarm and prosecute the Fulani herdsmen terrorists that have been recorded as one of the deadliest terrorists groups in the world.

“The group of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association which openly supported the activities of the murderous Fulani herdsmen be identified and banned immediately. President Buhari should suspend his membership and patronage of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association until he leaves office to reduce tension.”

Ayokunle was also quoted as saying insecurity in the country had become an embarrassment such that even military officers are afraid of traveling without escorts.

He added: “Enough is enough about insecurity in the country. It is totally embarrassing and people are having sleepless nights over it. There is no free movement anymore. Even military officers can no longer travel without heavy military escort; it is as bad as that. It is happening on a daily basis, it is no longer propaganda, neither is it political opposition talks.

“Our relatives are constantly being kidnapped and we are being compelled to look for money to pay ransoms. There are no other persons we can call upon other than the government because that is why they are there.”

ENOCH ADEBOYE TACKLES RUGA WITH WISDOM

narrates his conversation on RUGA with his mathematician friend

passes power of judgment to participants

RUGA: Reasonable Understanding for Gradual Advancement

Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG yesterday 31st August, 2019 at the Church Leaders Stakeholders’ Summit organised the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), displayed a rare kind of wisdom in tackling the RUGA issue that has agitated the minds of most non-Fulani Nigerians, especially in Southern Nigeria.

In his keynote address at the summit which took place at Shepherdhill Baptist Church, Obanikoro, Lagos Nigeria, Adeboye responded to the proposed/suspended RUGA Settlement Programme by the Buhari administration, by narrating a conversation that took place between his friend, a mathematician and himself, during which the friend opened up on the RUGA standoff enveloping Nigeria.

Adeboye said his friend is as grandiloquent as he is funny. He loves using big grammar like conviviality, probability, monstrosity,  concentric, eccentric, adding that people who agree with his position are called Concentric and those who disagree with him are called Eccentric.

The friend is not only grandiloquent, but also a funny man. A proof that he is funny, Adeboye said, is his contention that when nursing mothers refused to breastfeed her child and resort to cow milk, the child ends up being a cowboy. The friend also said the problem in Nigeria is not about the North and South dichotomy, but between the wise and the foolish.

On RUGA, the funny friend said, if a cow herder kills your brother and his blood spilled on the grass which is fed to the cow, and the siblings of the man killed still eat the cow that fed on the grass on which the blood was spilled, they are as guilty as the cow herder.

The funny friend, according to Adeboye said, if a cow herder kills your brother and the following day you are still seen eating suya by the cow herder, you are foolish because you are assisting the cow herder to march on.

The funny friend still contends that RUGA means Reasonable Understanding for Gradual Advancement and this is succinctly displayed in what is happening in Nigeria. The funny friend said “the cow that is eating in your backyard will gradually advance into your bedroom. Very soon, you will be drinking water from the river that has been polluted by the droppings of the cow.

Adeboye said his friend went ahead to show him what the white man said about red meat. Red meat is not good for the body and the first source of red meat is the cow, followed by goat and then ram. He said the best meat for you is the fish and you find it everywhere in any village. Why eat cow meat then?

The pastor then assisted his friend to throw a challenge to people at the summit: “Those of you who agree with my friend should say Yea…” to which the whole participant shouted YEAAA. “Those who disagree with my friend should say “NO”. There was a pin drop silence and Pastor Enoch Adeboye stepped down from the podium.

Earlier, Adeboye had warned that he only came to narrate a conversation between his friend and himself, and he would not want anybody to say he is the author of the conversation, to which everybody laughed.

Since he knew it won't be easy for him to rule the country then why did he forcefully enter into power? There are some that are born to be a leader, these kind of people have enough tactics and wisdom to rule not like a dummy

see unrealistic dream. you think you can convince anybody to ban any group that has a backing of the constitution for freedom of Association. then you need to ban CAN first. mumu

This is a regrettable suggestion from CAN.
Asking Me President to ban miyetti Allah cattle ranching association is exactly you asking the president to have himself imprisoned.
From this discussion, I deduct another crisis to rise with more bloodshed to what had happened.
Please let's seek for a better solution on how to revive the country and the way forward and not laying siege for another war.

It's like saying Buhari should ban himself.
Buhari is a Fulani man, has herds which invariably makes him a herder and a grand patron of the group.

This is impossible...
Which means his primary allegiance is to his tribe and "business associates"?

So much for "being for everybody and not for anyone" grin

Except Nigeria moves forward but for a country that thinks opposite of what top 10 world cattle breeders think about in respect to the best ways to improve on the business which RUGA is not one of them.

I totally agree and it is my sincere prayer that we will be in the position of power that will enable us to do this.
Scrap all non-denominational churches and tax the rest according to their net worth.

That doesn't change the fact that Fulani herdsmen have been responsible for many atrocities.

I don't understand this Nigerian way of thinking whereby you juxtapose one thing with another. The 2 (tiv/jukun) and fulani herdsmen are both issues that need to be resolved. Eod.
