Over the years, I have been able to study a lot of career progressions and have come to the conclusion that as much as an individual decides to drive his/her career to the next level, many also self-sabotage. Mostly they do this through giving in to instant gratification.

Instant gratification is simply, foregoing a future benefit in order to obtain a less rewarding benefit. Many people favour this while building or sustaining their careers because they often refuse to look at the bigger picture.

Instant gratification kills or stagnates careers. What are the ways you can avoid it?

Stop procrastinating: In your career, you will outline a lot of tasks, not just from work, but also in your personal branding/development. Are you carrying out these tasks or are you putting them off? Some creative people work better in the middle of the night. Sometimes though, they may find themselves sleeping all through the night, when they have tasks to tackle. Putting off sleep to finish a task, may seem difficult initially, but when done, you will be proud of yourself. Quit procrastinating and finish off your tasks.
