There have been numerous recommendations for the office of the president recently. Notable among them is Akinwumi Adeshina, the current president of AFDB, following his appearance at the G7 summit, his recent endorsement for reelection by the Ivorian president, and a pose with the king of Swaziland. This gentleman is making the news positively, and you cannot but wonder if he will make a fine president. Honestly, Nigerians these days frequently throw the phrase "this man/woman make a great president" around or they mean to, especially when a Nigerian professional makes the news. Nigerians ask questions like:" how can Buhari be the president when there are people like this" Well, you can't really blame Nigerians, many years of disappointing governance would do that to you. Nonetheless, Akinwunmi Adeshina is not the only individual mentioned, there are others like Moghalu, Oby Ezekweseli, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Fela Durotoye, Omoyele Sowore e.t.c. This background lends credence to the following questions: Who makes a great governor or president? Does a higher academic degree make you a better candidate for the president/governor? Does your job experience on a global scale make you a better candidate?- By this I mean, if you excelled as an economist for the world bank, does your expertise with respect to that fit into the Nigerian context?- you may think if she could manage the world bank, then she undoubtedly can manage the Nigerian economy. As reasonable as that sounds it's not that simple. Does the accumulation of experience lower political positions make you better equipped for the highest political office-governor or president? Are certain aspects of the government or political system more important than others such that leading experts in that area are better suited for governor or president?- For instance, which of these experts would you prefer: a scientist, an engineer, an activist, an economist, a public administrator.,
or a doctor?-sorry if I didn't mention your profession. This question is particularly important because you can hardly find anyone deeply knowledgeable in multiple aspects of government. Or does strong expertise in one aspect combined with moderate expertise in other areas work? If so how much of each is necessary? Besides the aforementioned, somebody must become finance minister or education minister e.t.c. Afterall someone who would make an excellent minister of Agriculture does not necessarily make an effective president. You can always find the corresponding state-level equivalents of these positions. These are questions I believe we must deliberate upon in our quest to make the best choices for the highest political offices. Keep your comments coming in.

Osinbajo will be President of Nigeria till 2031. He has experience, education and sagacity to grant full autonomy of Police, Resources and Elections control to our 36 constitutional States.
