Rivers State Lawmakers Protest Over Collapsing Bridge by Upritman(m): 4:49pm On Sep 09, 2019
Some lawmakers from Rivers State on Monday took to the street to protest against the collapsing state of the Akpajo Bridge in the Eleme axis of the state.
The lawmakers comprised of those at the state and national levels from the Rivers South-East Senatorial District.

Leader of the protesting lawmakers, Senator Barry Mpigi while addressing newsmen called on the federal government to urgently fix entire road and repair the bridge.

"The lives of our people and other Nigerians are at risk here. We’ve written to the authorities and also raised motions on the floor of NASS concerning this. We decided to show Nigerians what our people faces everyday and demand that the federal government listens to us and avert unforeseen tragedy that might occur here", Mpigi lamented.

Information Parrot Nigeria reports that the angry lawmakers carried placards with various inscriptions.

That bridge is the link to ph refinery,Eleme Petrochemical, indorama,Daewoo,Npa,onne port,OGFZA housing over 300plus companies both oil,oil servixing amd construction companies.

How many vehicles ply that route in a day made me loose appetite to Work there.
Containers falling on staff buses and pedestrains.

The summary is that we have jokers As leaders cos they will only Come either when one of Their own is been buried, the way they did when Patience Jonathan's mom was being buried Or After collapsing and taking lives with it.

All those calling Wike you guys are simply ignorant. When Wike became governor in 2015 he proposed to construct that section of the road from Akpajo junction to the Aleto bridge and up to the Refinery Junction. The contract was already given to Julius Berger, work was to commence in ernest but Ameachi and co pulled strings at the federal level and that job was brought to a complete halt. Since then nothing was done up till now.
Last month when NDDC MD came to see the sorry state of the Bridge he promised to fix the bridge, the Zone Bs that exists on this space where falling over themselves and some even recorded it as the greatest achievement of mr 'INTEGRATED Corruption' administration in Rivers State. One month after we are back to the point of origin.
My prayer has always been that God should protect his own children.

In 2015. Wike went to the multinational companies in that axis and asked them to provide some amount of money for the repair of the road. But issues came up when the State Government directed them to pay them the money instead of paying to a contractor that will Work on the road.
