@ radautoworks

I got this 2012 Kia Optima in August and my only concern is the acceleration
Sometimes,, the vehicle stalls when on 80km/h for like 10-15s until I floor the accelerator then it picks up like a turbo. This only happens at 80km/h
The other one is this jerking sound from gear 2 to 3 or 3 down to 2 a times. Sometimes it stays longer in a particular gear with high revolution enough to engage next gear but it won't until I take off foot from the accelerator and press again. What could be wrong please?

It's developing transmission problems. Need a specialist to diagnose what needs to be replaced but get it scanned first

Oga just a quick question..
Was the car bought brand new in Nigeria ( from kia motors? They usually come with the 2.0l MPI theta II engine)

If yes then it is likely the gearbox has been replaced by previous owner, but not with the direct replacement ( most likely with code A6MF2).

This implies that the cylinder head must be installed with Torque to yield bolts?

Bought brand new, gear has never been replaced but the engine was changed last year due to sludge build up in the engine(owner was using Total Quartz 7000, the tag Dana motors placed on the bonnet)

Provide the gearbox number and post it here( you need to remove the airfilter box to view it)

If it starts with EA, then you are safe, and we can continue diagnosis.
If it starts with FA/FB, then wahala don dey be DAT.

Meanwhile, you will need to perform a scan. I would prefer you get someone that has a diagnostic machine to perform the Scan for you, since the car only comes with OBD1

Also provide the engine number here too to assure compatibility with the ECU. Does the engine idle well?

Engine idles so well since I changed from mineral oil to synthetic. Transmission is the only issue

no, that's not the implication. It may or may not have them (for a Corolla most likely not). Just in case, recommend but if not required head bolts can be reused. The ones in the link are standard.

Eh, actually most vehicles today are installed with such bolts(the corolla being referred to definitely has ). However some vehicles manufacturers ( e.g Toyota) does not stipulate it as a requirement, but rather state that bolts must be measured(with a vernier caliper) to ensure the bolt stretch does not exceed a threshold. If it does, you must replace because desired clamping force may be compromised.

Honda ( particularly for the K-series engines) require bolt replacement whenever a cylinder head is removed.

Good.

Now kindly get the gearbox number as requested so we can be guided from here.

OBDI ke on New cars sold by a company with waivers and they say it is Nigerians importing scrao. That is the system on cars made before 1995 it should be impossible for KIA to still have those on cars it is like selling computers with Windows 98

lol..I know it is difficult to believe.

But guess what . It is true because i once drove one. Gazzuzz abi i dey lie grin

If you like, disconnect the ECU the check engine light will not come on shocked shocked grin grin grin

Nigeria is really a dumping ground. The Kia optima in question has only 2 airbags(driver & front passenger) , only ABS( no stability control) and no cruise control(wtf?!)

the KIA equivalent in North America is faar better equipped with respect to active safety.

This is why i will continue to buy Toks instead of the ripoff called brand new in Nigeria. More value for your money.

In the end, they have studied their market. I always get annoyed when traders glibly say they are simply giving people what they want, but it it true to an extent. Go through some fp threads and you will see grown adults expecting quality services or products at base cost

And how much was it to find the problem? N17k for the freon with UV dye and labor. The evaporator core labor is only two hours (N10k) once he can get the part. Prado isn't made in US so we don't carry the parts unless they match another model.
